A side effect of too frequent anesthesia can cause some short term memory loss. I am HOPING this is why I've had a miserable work trip (although the travel itself was fine for once).

- Dropped off Avis car the night before as I moved the Courtyard at DEN, left my personal laptop in the back floorboard (can't take it into work, so set it in the floorboard). A nice , 6 month old 16" MBP. Got it back by riding the Hotel Shuttle to Airport - AVIS Shuttle to lot. The ladies were at the counter were very attentive and nice. Also, the hotel shuttle left 10 minutes early when he heard why I was headed back. I gave him the absolute last of my cash - $4.

- Left iPhone on last flight home, fortunately I realized it before I got to baggage. Flight attendent found it and returned it.

- Could not get truck door open in airport parking lot enough to get luggage in. Put luggage (AND briefcase) in front of car 1 slot over. Pulled out and drove over luggage (destroyed a portable monitor and luggage itself, everything else turned out fine).

I will have to say the ladies at Delta and Avis were extremely pleasant to deal with. I sometimes forget what good customer service is.

Damn. Sounds like my parents' latest trip to Italy where my dad managed to lose his passport and his wallet in two different instances. I think being in unusual circumstances can overwhelm our minds causing us to uncharacteristically do things and miss things.

I had an online Dr appointment scheduled for 4:30 this afternoon. I was online and waiting at 4:25. As of 5:30, he was still a no-show, and I bailed to get on with my evening. As far as I can tell, the platform has no way to inform me if he's running late, or whatever. I expect they're going to try to charge me the $50 fee for "missing" my appointment or cancelling it "late".

Of course, I need to see him to refill a medication I take daily. Hopefully, he actually attends the new appointment I set for earlier in the afternoon (i.e. while I'd still be working) next week.
And, he was a no-show again. This time, I called and spoke to a CSR and was assured I wouldn't be charged, at least, and that an operations supervisor will call me back.

I think the worst mass produced US beer is genetally acknowledged to be PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon), but I welcome correction by experienced beer drinkers.
PBR has its place. I like to drink it while watching roller derby.

I have some mgd in the pantry closet but it’s reserved for boiling brats.

One of my Canada Day crew emailed me to let me know he was bailing on my show because he might be crewing a European tour; he won't know until tomorrow or Saturday but if he gets it he'll be flying out on Sunday so he wanted to give us as much warning as possible.

Why does this piss me off? Let me count the ways...

1) Because it's a smaller show we are a crew of 3; we can't do it with 2 since I'll be busy actually shooting the show and we need at least 2 spotters for safety, not to mention the show prep will take even longer with one less person.

2) Most everyone I know locally has already been snapped up for J1 shows; fortunately the display manager in Winnipeg says he had to turn people away as we thought we were fully crewed (until now; turns out this guy didn't include him in the email chain so when he saw my messages he was all WITAF) but he's sure he can get me a replacement...I certainly hope so.

3) While I'm pissed off at the guy for dumping this on us, I can understand it as a touring gig pays a lot more than a fireworks display...but I'm also pissed off at how he's very likely shot himself in the foot and gotten himself blacklisted from other shows this company handles, including possibly being bounced from Celebration of Light.

Time will tell.

My Doc and I had a series of bad scheduling, he got called to the ER once, next time a previous patient went off the rails and it took them an extra hour, the third time, I'm not sure what happened and I swore I was going to change Doc's but he's really good so I resumed and we haven't had a glitch yet.
And, he was a no-show again. This time, I called and spoke to a CSR and was assured I wouldn't be charged, at least, and that an operations supervisor will call me back.
If you like him, try again; if you don't go for the alternative.

He's not especially great. He's also made no contact to excuse the absences in any fashion.

Because I see him through an insurance-provided telehealth platform, he may not even be able to. Their support staff said they have no way to directly contact him. So, count that layer of indirection as another thing that pisses me off.

I can't believe nobody has brought this up yet. Last night's debate showed neither of those 2 are qualified to be president. Everyone that has watched a parent develop dementia sees the advanced signs in Biden. And Trump confirmed he's the world record holder in speed lying.

Don't even get me started on the prospect of President Kamala.

Biden's a weird case, because he's definitely at an age at which cognitive decline is a concern, but he's also got a stutter that's presented these particular issues since he was a child. And of course, we're very unlikely to get a public, independent assessment. We saw how well Trump's medical clearances from Bornstein and Jackson were conducted.

Edit: Yeah, this isn't the SB, I shouldn't really get into the substance here.

This happening just as I crossed a border is very very problematic. Attempting to cache google maps on train station wifi…
And my phone is up (on 4g) but hotel internet service died. I’m limping tethered. The other two phones are still service intermittent.

I was won over by the marketing. And of course my first bag of Star Wars Oreos is light side.
I was weirded out by those Oreos. If you open one up, it is white in the center rather than entirely blue (or I suppose red. we got light side), like a log of Stuf was dyed. I don't know why it bothers me but it does.

Wait, wut! I eat mine with a fork stabbed through the middle (like any Jedi should be), and I did not see this. I guess I have to open another bag!

T-Mobile Prepaid. I've been with them for years with few complaints, and I'm not switching, but every so often they slam their collective penises in the door so hard that it makes me reflexively protect my crotch.

They do a "2FA" for logging in where they text you a code. For the last three days, that code has taken so long to arrive that the login screen has timed out before it arrives, and on the couple occasions it arrived in time, the code is refused. I had to walk a mile each way on my day off to pay the bill in person, and they charge extra for paying the bill at a store. Even if it's their fault that I had to.

Funny moment: During the process, the CS rep asked me for my account PIN. Now, I know I set one, but it's not a part of any online transaction and as a result I've long since forgotten it, and I told him so. Apparently that was the correct answer, because he just moved on with the transaction. :)

And in the saga of small furry things where they shouldn't be... apparently this is the animal trap that my landlord had. Yeah. The bait might get nibbled on, possibly fully eaten, but it's not going to trap any small furry thing.

What it might catch is the possum that comes wandering along the back just about every night on it's way to who knows where looking for food.

And his son has his mother (landlords wife) come by with the gardener guy with the trap to get it set. Not his son. Without giving me a text/call heads up. FFS, really? So we'll see.

Exactly. So I'm not holding out much hope. If there's nothing caught, or trap is triggered but nothing in the trap, I'm going to insist on an inspection/trapping/whatever by a pest control company. He had a chance. And if he objects, I'll give rent control a call and see what they think is a reasonable "let the landlord handle it before asking for rent reduction because I pay for a proper fix/mitigation/pest control" acts.

If there is something other than the possum that could fit down in there, then I'll insist on repeated traps, before fixing the cover.

Because of the Columbian snow drifts?
That's more of a Miami problem. Orlando just has too many tourists and the tourism bureau and hotels haven't done a good enough job of communicating that FDOT still hasn't gotten around to swapping the speed limit signs for minimum speed signs on I-4. Or that you don't need to slow down that much for the rain. Yeah the sky is black as night, but it'll go away soon enough so slowing from 90 to 70 is good enough for safety, we don't need to go all the way down to fucking 45.

"90 to 70 is good enough. 45 is too damn slow."
Yeah, I can see that. If someone's doing 45 on a highway I'd be annoyed, too.
<re-reads>...in Florida.
Oh. 90 to 70 mph. 45 mph.

Wait...90 miles per hour? mph, mph....what is that in Terran Consistent units....? Oh. Oh...! Oh, my god and goddess....that's a normal speed for Florida...? And 45mph is too slow? What, did the old Car Wars RPG start out as Tales from the Florida Interstate or something?

No, Car Wars is fiction and fiction has to be at least somewhat plausible. Florida driving does not and is not.

Oddly, I have heard stories about the mythical drainage ability of Florida interstates that suggest slowing to 45 might not be that far out of line. I chose the adjective 'mythical' there quite deliberately, you see.

Umm, I've been on Interstates a lot in 2024, 90+ is far from uncommon.

I was on I-25 last week and the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 left lane campers were bad. There was even a huge digital billboard saying something along the lines of the left lane is not a campground. The amount of people that are just inconsiderate assholes on the road is just amazing.

Huh. That's...something. Most of the roads in Canada are speed capped at 55-60 mph (Well, I can't speak for Canada as I have yet to visit the Greater Toronto Area, only been to the uninhabited portion that is the rest of the country), with only sections of the TransCanada highway capped at 70 mph. Folks here do go 80-90 mph on the #1, but run the real risk of a speeding ticket from bored cops with nothing better to do in the empty hours between cities if they do.
