The Python one is amazing, too... "sometimes we have a competition to write the longest list comprehension...and sometimes it's in production...and sometimes we don't call it a competition but work"

And his delivery of:

You do... from module import object.. and things are good.
You do import package dot module as object things are good.
You do from module import all... everything burns.

And the FFMPEG one is good, too.

Most all of them are pretty good, though, some are great.
I do like the JS one where he’s quick fire going through all the different flavour of the month frameworks, drawing it on a white board with various arrows between them, the camera pulls back for a moment and you see its turned into a pentagram.

I reckon JS was the language used to summon demons in Charlie Stross’s Laundry Files books.

oh wow, I don't really remember this scene. Except for the pheasant under glass joke... that sounds familiar.

but it looks like it is probably from season 5 which I don't know as well as the earlier seasons. It's been awhile since I watched the show, might have to watch it again.

If any of you watch blade makers or historical wrafighters on Youtube, you probably know that "carbon fiber sword" has been a bit of a meme for a long time. Well, Shadiversity et al have been spending years off and on testing and trying various methods of using carbon fiber as a blade (including some interesting practical tests of different weaves and backings if you want to go into their video archive). But today, they are showing off the product of all their research, testing, and build practice with a full-fledged carbon fiber (It's a composite, actually, but they get into the details in-video) sword. As they have not tested anything at this scale before, the video itself is a discovery process for them, so I won't spoil anything else.

Oops, forgot to link the follow-up video. If you want to see them weilding it and being shocked by the weight, watch the first one. If you want destruction testing, watch the second. Of note, these are still prototypes, but they're the first full-size (absurdly huge full size) ones they've done.

So this lady is going out to do a bit of fun flying in an Extra 300 (high performance acrobatics aircraft) and has a... slight technical malfunction because she didn't lock the canopy all the way in. Still, she managed to remember the first rule, and flew the fuckin airplane and got back onto the field safely.

I don't know if there's enough interest in Robert Eggers's "Nosferatu" for its own thread. But the trailer just dropped today.

1: There is a whole lot more Dracula in this than in OG "Nosferatu"
2: William DaFoe as Van Helsing? excellent.
3: The trailer makes it look more conventional than Eggers's previous films: The Northman, The Lighthouse, The VVitch. I suspect that has more to do with the trailer.

Anyway, here it is:

On YouTube "Forces News" (mainly focusing on UK military related stuff) just put out a video ( 24 Jun 2024 ) on the CT-40 (a 40 mm canon system). The video shows how it would generally load, but what is impressive is the improvement on the munitions on size and power. This is a joint project between the UK and France via CTA International ( BAE Systems (UK) and Nexter Systems (France)).

Interesting. Initially based on the look, it seemed like it was supposed to be a MBT, which that's ridiculously small for that, but as a medium gun, seems pretty interesting. But the loading system, can't quite tell if it's simply an in-order carousel, or if it's a selectable to any round within it, so they can more easily switch depending on immediate needs. Hopefully the later, that's a bit what it sounded like, without me hearing specifically that's what it's capable of.

I’m pretty certain that’s a video for how to mathematically summon demons.

Just a hunch, really.
Mathematically summoning demons, you say?
