Channel 9 in Denver hosted a GOP primary debate for CO 4 that Boebert and 5 other Republicans are vying for. Vaush had some fun commenting on the debate.

The moderators were not tolerating much BS and were generally hostile to the candidates. Maybe we need more debate moderators like this. "You didn't answer the question." was repeated frequently.

I had fun watching this. Hopefully the voters in CO 4 are tired of Boebert and the rest. My wife has been sending postcards to support one of the Democratic candidates for the same district.

Representative Good, chair of the Freedom Caucus, is having a rough time of it in the Virginia primary.

Link:

At time of reporting and heading into the weekend, he's losing by about 300 votes (out of 60,000 cast) to a candidate endorsed by Trump and apparently part of the McCarthy Revenge Tour (TM). Good is of course insinuating that there must be fraud or a conspiracy or something that explains this. And boy oh boy are the statements getting a bit wacky. As they were inevitably bound to do.

“We had 3 ‘fires’ on election day in 3 precincts, all requiring the precincts to be evacuated for 20 minutes. Albemarle County, Hanover County, and Lynchburg City. What is the probability? Does anyone recall even 1 fire at a precinct on election day?” Good said. “AI estimates the probability being 0.0000000318% chance.”

I wonder what LLM Good threw THAT question into...

There are more. And with it being so close, there is bound to be a recount. But it's not looking good for... well... Good. snort

So, I guess that makes McCarthy 1 and 1, given that efforts to oust Mace in South Carolina were ultimately in vain.

I wonder who is next?

It's better without the asshole commentator going off on irrelevant tangents.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm HIGHLY dubious of polling right now, but this one seems to be a wide enough gap to either be believable, or a truly horrifical bad poll. Only time will tell.

So what is it?

In the Maryland Senate race, Alsobrooks has an 11 point lead over Hogan. I honestly expected Hogan to be closer than that, he's generally popular in Maryland. But this is encouraging if Alsobrooks can hold on to the lead, Maryland has been a safe Democratic seat for quite some time and they're going to need all the seats they can get.

In gubernatorial races, Hogan could pretty much run on his own platform. It's probably much harder to do for offices at the federal level, especially in a party that requires staunch obedience. Perhaps in the days of yore, when congressional members were allowed more latitude, this wouldn't have been a major issue to overcome.

I agree, but Hogan's been re-running his "I'm my own guy" routine for the Senate campaign as well. And he's been highly critical of Trump for years, so it's not like he didn't have some street cred in this area. What I find encouraging is that the electorate seems to get that the Senate ain't the same ballgame and having Hogan as a Senator means that Maryland only has 1 Senator.

Some good signs for Democrats overall, including Biden, in recent polls.

Then, after Republicans over the weekend nominated a far-right candidate for lieutenant governor in Indiana, a top national GOP lawyer predicted a “serious” threat to the top of the ticket even in the heart of MAGA country.

Now, new polling from Fox News shows an 11-point swing in President Joe Biden’s favorability among independents: They prefer Biden by 9 points, a reversal from May, when they favored Trump by 2 points.

“This election is going to be decided on the margins, and short-term, his conviction is hurting him in the polling.”

It isn’t just Trump’s conviction, of course. Republicans are now seeing reasons for concern across the map, even in the most unusual of places. Trump is animating base voters — and donors — with his grievances about the trial. But his standing with swing voters and independents appears to be slipping. And other problems for Republicans are popping up down-ballot.

In a special election in Ohio’s 6th Congressional District this month, massively outspent Democrat Michael Kripchak erased 19 points from Trump’s 2020 margin of victory — still losing, but becoming the first Democratic candidate to carry the blue-collar Mahoning County since Trump painted it red in 2020.

Incumbent Democratic senators in battleground states like Wisconsin, Nevada and Pennsylvania are polling ahead of their Republican challengers. In Arizona’s open Senate race, Republican Kari Lake, a star of the MAGA movement, is underperforming in the polls.

And Republicans across the map are still laboring under backlash to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade. A Gallup poll released this month found record levels of voters saying that, in major races, they would only vote for candidates who share their views on abortion — with the intensity surrounding the issue likely to benefit abortion rights candidates more.

Jamaal Bowman has lost to George Latimer. Jamaal Bowman is part of the progressive wing of Democratic party. As he has criticized Israel's war on Gaza, he was target by pro-Israel lobbying group. The pro-Israel groups have spent close to $15m against Jamaal. That is a lot of money for a Congress seat.

He’s getting trounced, 60-40. Don’t think you can lay that solely at the feet of opposition spending; his ideas must have been genuinely unpopular in his district.

It’s yet another data point that ”Biden needs to take a harder line on Israel or he’s gonna lose!” is not rooted in an accurate understanding of the electorate.

Theatlantic article claims that he has gotten to far left. Also, he voted against Biden infrastructure bill. The Gaza war is not a major topic during the election, but I do agree USA are more pro-Israel than Soap Box.

The text of your post blamed his loss on pro-Israel opposition spending; I don’t think that’s the case. Maybe his getting too far left and voting against the infrastructure bill were factors in his defeat, but his anti-Israel stance wasn’t close to being enough to save him.

Apology. Was mainly try to summary the Guardian's article. I should have made it more clear and also summary the Atlantic's article. Someone in New York may able to tell us more.

Bowman had the fire alarm pulling incident. His district consists of WestChester and the Bronx.

Jewish voters in Westchester voted early. Turnout is 50% or greater than the 2022 primary.

This primary, with outside money, was the most expensive House district primary race in history.

Even without Gaza, he was more left than his constituents in Westchester.
