The past week has seen an ongoing series of brawls centered around 1DQ1/T5ZI/E-V, culminating in around 1 trillion isk of subcap losses. There's been a bit of tidi but nothing too bad, and it's been fantastic to be able to login, take a jump or two (or just undock) and be able to get into the fight.

This has been fantastic for both sides - participation is really high.

Highly, highly amused that there might be a direct gate to Stain happening.
There's not. Or at least, I'm highly suspect. There was the April Fools thing, and every reference since then that I've seen is completely unsubstantiated.

I'm a little sad that it looks like there really might be a hisec gate to Solitude. I've been enjoying the extremely low research activity going on out there.

So you don't want to leave the solitude?

CCP in their infinite wisdom "optimized" Industry and adjusted the build materials and costs for ships. The hardest hit were Battleships and capitals.

https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/a-s ... o-industry

On top of that CCP decided that the rich were too rich, so they decided to implement scarcity. It has not worked well.

There have been promises made of opening the taps at some point (things like capital anomalies) but there's nothing firm.

So you can't wardec just any corp any more?

Getting annoyed at folk just contesting ded sites and want to introduce them to the wonderful world of PvP

You need a structure as a war HQ that is in High Sec to declare wars now.
Also you can only wardec corps or alliances who own structures.

So yeah, the trolls just don't own structures.

I'm interested in joining Eve later this fall, after I migrate to a new M1-based Mac (unlike Intel Macs these can't dual-boot into Windows) and assuming CCP delivers its long-in-development Mac client, currently in beta.

I've been watching a lot of Twitch and I'm digging the small gang nullsec fights I'm seeing with streamers like Arsia Elkin.

I expect to die a lot learning with T1 attack or combat frigates (I am a slow learner), and high sec and PvE fits and tactics seem to be somewhat different from playing in nullsec - for example, from what I've seen Eve wants you to learn orbiting, which doesn't work well compared to kiting in group fights. So, I'm wondering about good ways to build up real world skills (as opposed to SPs) that can apply to nullsec. Do I want to consider Eve University, or a newbie-friendly corp like Pandemic Horde or KarmaFleet?

I'd recommend the following:
Do all 5 of the Career Agents (Business/Exploration/Industry/Military/Advanced Military). The missions can suck in places, but there's alot of good information in there.
Then choose one of the newbie-friendly corps (all three you listed are good, although as a goon I'd tend towards Karmafleet) and get stuck in.
If you see an oppourtunity to find something out, do it.

Most of all, there are two golden rules about flying ships in eve:

1. Don't fly something you can't afford to lose
2. Ships and pods are ammo - you lose one or both, you can just replace them.

Finally, don't be afraid to ask questions, or watch how-tos on youtube, or just explore.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I also see that there are pirate corps (JoeBane, SheltarkSykari) who are encouraging newbs to join them in RP and are giving them ships and (apparently very basic) instruction to join new gang fleets.

I think I need to get a basic understanding of controls and fits first though. I watched an experienced player go though a couple of Eve's New Player Experience modules and he (and I) were impressed by how well it was done. They start you off in a fight then kill you so you learn to accept that part of the game, which I think was really smart. They also throw you in some nice ships like the Astero (something to aspire to, assuming you know it's good!) at first. So I guess I'll run through NPE for a while and train up skills (in addition to the 1 million SP from referral) before I try too hard to get killed.

This is out now. I resubbed after like 10 years to try it out. On my 2015 iMac it's really good. I suspect that the M1 Macs will be a pretty good experience.

Yes, you can buy toons via the forums.

From what I see, nothing like what was being complained about.

I found the "Character Marketplace" on their forums, it has 10-ish to 100-ish millions SP toons there, and all for sale from other players.

The complaint I encountered was saying you could just buy a 250M SP character direct from CCP. Like EQ's "Heroic Characters" (only, y'know, better. With blackjack, and...)

I believe you are referring to CCP selling SP directed (https://secure.eveonline.com/packs/deta ... ost-bundle). IIRC there was a reddit post where they emailed people with inactive characters they could buy 50 mil or 100 mil of SP for ~$300 to "catch up"

I have not heard that CCP is creating characters and selling them.

Would be better off I think buying Plex to sell and buying one from the bazaar.

Looks like your old toon won eve: https://zkillboard.com/character/1566301669/

Yes, so far as I can tell, nobody has used Kraven Kor since 2012.

Gave him to "The Cheese" here in.... 2010 or so? 2009?

And he is apparently persona non grata here since even before that, so pretty much no chance of getting the character itself back.

Don't see anything *approaching* Kraven on the bazaar. 110M was highest I saw there.

Kraven had L5 command ship skills, L5 railgun and missile skills, etc. Was trying to set him up as FleetCom for my corp, back in the day.

I inherited several high-SP Ars characters, so if anyone really wants one, we can probably get you one.

Eh...

If anything, I want Kraven Kor back, but that ain't happening. Given that, something as close to him as possible - 150M+ SP, Caldari BS/HAC/AssFrig/CommandCruiser skills, L5 gunnery & EWAR skills, etc. ZERO, count them, ZERO supercap skills. Dedicated "small ship" combat dude.

And no idea what I would even do with him. About once a year or so, I pine for the old character.

I have two toons north of 130 mil SP, one can fly everything up to dreds, the other is my industry guy who can build (and fly) everything BS and lower, and can build and fly jump freighters.

I am, however, still winning at Eve (since 2016,) so other than logging in every now and then to spin my ship in the hanger, I don't do anything. :D

***edit***

Jeez, I just realized my Ars account is old enough to buy beer. :scared:

Very nice. My main is closing in on 100m SP

Out of my 3 characters (one pure combat focused, one industry/carrier focused, and one well rounded) - I only have my main left. I gave the other two away, they were both in the 150 million point range and that was years and years ago. I have no idea where my combat focused character went. Sean MacIntyre.
While not an uncommon name, is it borrowed from David Weber's Dahak series?

Why yes, Colin's brother. I was surprised how many times I got hit up in local about that.

....randomly pop into the Ars EVE thread for old times sake on a Monday morning. Characters and SPs are mentioned.. I know I had some high SP characters, start wondering if I can figure out or see how badly I played EVE way-back-when.

I click on the password recovery button as what I thought my login was fails badly. Turns out... I didn't remember any of my account names and I have 5 logins tied to my email address.

Yeah, I am not gonna go any further.

One of my accounts is tied to an email I no longer use, so when I try to log in (I still have login/password,) the account confirmation email goes who knows where....

I could call CCP and get it fixed, I suppose, but :effort:
