As an aside, I couldn't translate Proche Orient in English to the correct Near East, because you English speakers have abandoned that distinction between Near (Lebanon-Israel centered region) and Middle (Persian Gulf centered region) that still exists in French. I had never noticed it, and now I find you weird.
It's all weird here, where "Asian" means "Far East Asian."
In reference to Louisiana passing a law requiring that the 10 Commandments be displayed in every classroom.
