OK, so now we know who Master is. How long until both Master and Sol figure out the twin swap? I sort of got the feeling that Master already knows that he has Osha not Mei (and certainly the shot emphasizing her tattoo made it abundantly clear to the audience), and on the other side at least the sensitive-nose guide seems to think something is ...amiss.

Goddamn, that episode was a doozy! I’m bummed that they went with the obvious choice for the secret bad guy, but that minor disappointment was easily outweighed by the best, most intense lightsaber fighting since…ever? Jecki’s hero moment was awesome, as she went down fighting ferociously. I was a little sad to see poor Yord meet his end, though his ignominious fate was appropriate for such a doofus.

I’m pretty sure the Sith guy and Sol will figure out the twin swap very quickly.

Yeah-- disappointed that they went with the obvious choice on the Master, but also not too surprised given how this show is going (I was hoping they wouldn't go there, though). And I'll forgive them given that that was some of the best lightsaber combat we've seen in live action.

Side note: it feels like episodes 4 and 5 were written as one and split to pad out the episode count, with almost nothing happening in 4 then everything happening all at once in 5. That makes for weird pacing in both episodes if they're separate, but as two halves of one episode would be pretty typical TV pacing (slow build up to the huge climax in the middle of the episode with the Master appearing and big lightsaber battle).

So like, if Sol had killed Darth whoever when he had the chance would it have been like if Luke had killed Palpatine? "Strike me down and I'll become more powerful, etc". And then Sol would have been driven mad by what he did and become a Sith himself?
Yeah, it seemed like Sol was on the verge of diving headlong into the dark side when he was about to kill Darth Badguy in a fit of rage.

I like @Telwar’s idea that we’ll get Rashomon part 2 next week. I could see the second half of the season’s episodes mirroring the corresponding first half episode, as dualities seem to be a big theme of this show (identical twins, two untrustworthy masters, the interplay between dark and light, etc).

I'm thinking that Darth Mendoza is actually the apprentice, not the master. He's looking for an acolyte to help him overthrow his master so that he can become the master.
This seems possible. Doesn't being a Sith for long enough to become a master screw up your physical appearance a bit? So this guy is relatively new, but still somehow powerful enough to take on 8 Jedi at once. That part is harder to accept.

Well, Mace Windu isn't there to deflect force lighting into his face. And there's no Kenobi to turn him into a lava mat.

Yeah me too, and given how she was referenced in this episode I think it may be Mother Koril. Though I do have a difficult time seeing him getting Mae to turn on them.

Now I'm pissed. I kept wondering why she didn't just pop a claw and slice him up...

I'm also not sure Osha was still alive at the end. I didn't see her breathing. Seems unlikely they'd kill her at this point, though. And Pip is obviously going to be an important plot point. And I agree Bazil knows Mae smells wrong.

Manny healed her wound with the force.

Gotta say, I was surprised by this episode. Both Yord and Jecki.

I think Sol knows something is up. His reactions toward fake Osha suggest he knows something is wrong at the very least even if he is not sure what.

Oh, and Manny calling out Sol's own darkness. I know that @#&$% murdered the family.

Yeah, it's abundantly clear that Osha's memories of what went down that night are far from the whole story. On the front-page story that just went up about the show, the creators say that they filmed three or four episodes using the Brendok set. We've obviously already seen one, but since there are only three left to air, it suggests that large chunks of the remaining episodes are going to be flashbacks of some sort. Maybe, unlike the actual Rashomon, we'll get a definitive answer about what actually happened.

I'm expecting that Sol did something to feel guilty about, but it probably wasn't objectively that bad. Meanwhile, Kelnacca and Torbin basically exiled themselves, but notably Indara apparently felt fine from all accounts, though we really didn't get to see her much.

Someone on Reddit pointed out that in some of the Coven scenes, there are hooded people whose hoods aren't the same as the coven's. So that might be Darth (lol Bortles) and his master... possibly Tenebrous, maybe someone else, but they do seem to try to keep Legends stuff.

Really impressed with Manny Jactinto's work yesterday, was able to take me out of seeing him as Jason Mendoza.
You absolutely know for a fact that he had so much fun during this episode. I liked the little bit where he switched back to Qimir for about 3 seconds.

I have some questions please.

First, the fighting in this movie is way different from all the other Star Wars shows. I always like it when the light sabers come out but after a while the fight becomes meh and I'm ready for it to be over and get on with the show. This show? The fights are freaking awesome. From the Indara fight that opened the series to last night's action I fucking love these fights! They remind me of the Kung Fu movies I loved watching as a kid.

What did they change? Did they add a fight choreographer with experience with Kung Fu movies or something?

Secondly, all my Star Wars experience comes from the live action shows (although I'm up to season 4 in the Clone Wars animated series). I remember once Yoda saying something like always two there are with the Sith, master and apprentice. It appears being an Acolyte is part of this mix but I don't know how and the show explainer that I read hasn't covered that. Also, is this the the creation of the Sith? Were they dormant or in hiding for some reason?

I appreciate your help with these.

The Jedi Council thought the Sith were extinct, but I think in TPM Qui-Gon approached the Jedi Council with his findings that he believes Maul was a Sith Lord and the Council being shocked about it. Something about them being extinct for centuries. That means that their lineage was in hiding/secret for hundreds of years until Maul & Tyranus popped onto the scene, and eventually Sidious.

As for the acolyte, I mentioned above, but I think Darth Bortles is the Sith apprentice and he is looking for an acolyte to help him kill his master. But the show is leading people to believe that Darth Bortles is the master and he is looking for an apprentice. But that's a question that will likely be answered within the next 3 episodes.

I think I heard they do try to do some more Hong Kong style fights for this.

I suspect also that at least some of this is also down to their trying to present Qimir/Darth Bortles as being just relentlessly brutal, and that went into his training with Mae. Vader was limited by being played by someone who had problems moving and could barely see with the helmet, and while Christopher Lee was legitimately awesome, he was kind of old when playing Dooku. Vader's savagery declines through the OT (he's practically a teddy bear in RotJ), and Dooku never really seemed like his heart was that in being a right bastard.

Some disorganised thoughts:

I enjoyed the part of the fight where both Sol and Sith With A Helmet And A Voice Changer Because We Can’t Think Of Anything More Original both lost the use of their lightsabers and went hand-to-hand.

As usual, far too little creative use of the Force.

People disappearing and reappearing via stuns or apparently harmless bugs or worse just for no onscreen reason as the plot required was annoying. It was like watching a tag team TV show.

The trope of “please, I can explain!” followed by not explaining is extremely tiresome.

Apparently you can bamboozle a Jedi Master by simply throwing a blanket at them. Or making some sparks. No wonder order 66 was so effective.
