I'm not sure my choice makes a lot of sense in hindsight, but this is what I did:

Ink Samples:

  • Herbin Lierre Sauvage
  • Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrun
  • Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku

New Pens:

  • TWSBI ECO - Transparent Blue - Medium
  • LAMY cp1 - Extra Fine

A couple more Clairefontaine A4 wirebound note books (this is my daily driver paper).

Laugh at me if you want, SunRaven!

But I challenge you to look at THIS and tell me you'd put it back!

:eng101:
I dunno man. If LAMY Dark Lilac just "fell into" my shopping cart? I might keep it. ;) I certainly enjoyed all the drama around the recent re-release LOL

Right now I'm waiting on the Edelstein Golden Lapis release, plus hoping/not-hoping that they have a really good looking M200 to go along with it. I'm supposed to be curating my inks down to the Jacques Herbin shimmers + Iroshizuku only, but there are a ... few ... exceptions. ;)

I was trying to hold off on my big ink purchase until the Golden Lapis release (it looks so good in the previews!), but alas? I am on my last two vials of samples.

Recent brown discussions have made it so I wanted to try a few more brighter toned browns. And I both needed and was compelled to shop for more purple. :p

EDIT: GOD DAMNIT HIT THE WRONG BUTTON!
Links and tiny pics, incoming!

Looking at these posts I have to remember that I am an ant among gods. I merely dabble with nice things, but you all take it to an enviable level.
Haha, well, I think most of my favorite pens are on the $50-60 side.

The exception being my Edison, which has supplanted my Pilot Custom 823.

All joking aside, I think if you have a TWSBI Vac700R and a few nib units, you can experience all the good things in fountain pen life.

Folks with way more experience than me may have differing opinions on that though.

I agree. I still dabble in an occasional expensive pen (my most expensive was a new-in-box Omas Paragon for $450), but most times, I like buying well made Chinese pens in interesting designs.

Asvine P36 Titanium Pen (cooled my desire to buy a Conid, though I may buy the flat-ended vacuum filling Asvine V200)

Asvine P126 Skeleton

Opus 88 Demonstrator (Customized by our own bc to cut down the finial and put a smooth concave dimple in it to make it more interesting, and shave off a couple of threads so it opens in less than one turn instead of four without making it dry out faster when not used)

I do second the Vac700r. It's a fantastic pen that's easy to clean since the section threads onto the body, and the swappable and fairly inexpensive, readily available nibs make it great for experimenting. Mine has been sporting a F nib and Diamine Majestic Purple lately.

Got the new pens and ink samples yesterday!

Initial thoughts on the pens:

TWSBI ECO (M) - Writes great. I miss the fact that you can't remove the section like you can on a Vac700, so it make cleaning more laborious. Fits nice in the hand though, and it writes very smoothly!

LAMY CP1 (EF) - Very thin, but I like how understated and simple it is. Design wise it really invokes the Uniball rollerballs. The fact that when posted the cap doesn't stick out from the body of the pen at all is great. You don't have anything rubbing against the webbing of our hand that way. I also like that it doesn't have the finger grooves, which means I can manipulate the pen easier with my left-hand. The nib is a LAMY nib, so you know if you like them.

Initial thoughts on the ink samples:

Herbin - Lierre Sauvage: Really nice green. Ink seems wet, even in an LAMY EF, but dries pretty fast.

Rohrer & Klingner - Alt-Goldgrun: Mossy kind of look to it. Using it in a medium and it has a little shading to it. I like it more than I thought I would. Very likely to buy a bottle, but I want to use it in an EF before making a final call.

Shin-Ryoku - I haven't inked this one up yet. Likely to try this in the CP1 once it has run dry on the Lierre Sauvage.

Back to the first page, pen friends! My bottle of Golden Lapis was delivered about half an hour ago. The ink is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. @herko and @KT421 say it clogged their pens just by existing, so I figured broad nibs were the way to go. Now I'm going to let it sit overnight and see if it clogs for me too lol.

It clogged a freaking stub nib (Rotring) just by existing in it overnight.

No matter, it was a good excuse to order a broad nib because it could conceivably maybe be better.

Finally, an official flex nib for my Indigraph!
Literally placed an order as soon as I read the email.

We'll see how it do.

Lamy (new) Dark Lilac
First impressions: in low light and at fine line widths, this absolutely would be usable as a work ink. I’m going to use it as one, at least!

Whole page shot. The smear really shows how deep the purple starts and ends up. With the dip pen, you can really start to see the green-ish sheen. Paper is Maruman Mnemosyne 80gsm.

Low angle shot of the dip pen sample to really get the sheen.

Super zoomed in on the Vanishing Point Fine nib sample. Even here, the sheen is at least hinted at.

I like it.

Looks a lot like De Atramentis Aubergine, which I used daily for years when I first got my Custom 823.

I left the pen flat on my desk overnight, picked it up this morning without agitating it, and ... it wrote right away. No skips, no clogs. :eng101:
Left the pen unused since Friday. It's now Tuesday, and I wrote my journal entry with it today. No skips, no clogs, no reduction in ink flow, or in the ludicrous amounts of gold shimmer. I love it. I love that the blue is a Kon-peki dupe. I love the crazy gold shimmer. This ink is unapologetic. Fabulous.

How does one agitate a pen?

I have let my kids take over my Lamy clear Safari, and they let it go unused for weeks at a time.

Gently shake it around a bit, or roll it between your fingers.

The pen I am using has a clear section so its very obvious when the glitter is settled or well suspended.

Oh. My. God.

My wife would have killed for that when our babies were babies. I'm not sure I'm even exaggerating.

I don't like piston/vac fillers, I prefer converters, but

The Pilot 823 becoming available in clear, in the US, is filling me with a powerful want. I've been lingering over a Custom 74 purchase for a while now, and I might have to push the trigger on the clear one to satisfy that.
