Emma Hayes final season at Chelski seems to be going well 🍾
No League Cup, no FA Cup, no Champions League and, whisper it, possibly no trophy at all. Chelsea’s hopes of retaining their Women’s Super League title in Emma Hayes’s final season at the club took a major blow on Wednesday night after they suffered a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool.

Edumacate me, please. I saw a YouTube short about a smart play by a goalie, as follows:

Team A has a free kick. The ball hooks toward the goal and goes in, without the goalie even trying to block it, and the goal was nullified. The ref comes up to the goalie, congratulating him for knowing a "hidden rule".

Why would the goal be nullified?

At a guess, it was probably an indirect free kick, which requires the ball to touch another player before a goal can count.

sigh Vivianne Miedema is an Arsenal legend, and I'm going to miss her
She broke the WSL goal scoring record in 2020 but remained steadfastly untouched by the achievement. She overtook Ellen White to break that record. When the WSL instagram account published a fun cartoon of her celebrating breaking the record in front of White, she took issue with it in the comments section, remarking, ‘how about applause emoji @ Ellen White’?

I agree with Ange that the team should try to win every game but I can understand local fan's perspective as well. Whether or not Arsenal win the PL doesn't really affect spurs or me in any way...but I think not having to deal with any Arsenal fans IRL makes that perspective easier. Plus, as an Auburn fan, I learned long ago how to not let my rival's performance - good or bad - impact me and I feel sorry for people that do act like that.

Bayer Leverkusen win their first Bundesliga title, and do it unbeaten - a first for the Bundesliga. Happy for Granit Xhaka (y)

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich lose on the last day, and can only come third ;)
A funny thing about this locally; the soccer/football radio show here gave their Bundesliga correspondent grief for years that Bayern Munich was the only team to win it. That the Bundesliga was on par with Ligue 1 and PSG, in that it was then one super team and then everyone else. He would still defend the Bundesliga and bring up teams like Union Berlin and even predicted Bayern Munich would quiet possibly fall this season prior to the start of play. Unfortunately, he was unavailable most of this season as he stepped down early on to get married and wasn’t available to do yet another “I told you so” speech.

Ah well, at least we ended the season with a win and 89 points - enough to have won the league last season

And to put the inevitable hype around City winning their fourth consecutive title into perspective:

I happened to be flying from Berlin to Dublin late morning this past Wednesday and wondered why half the plane was wearing Leverkusen gear. Dublin airport was jammed with Italians and Germans. I have never seen so many police in one place as Temple Bar all afternoon, gearing up for the Europa final. Which didn't go great for Leverkusen, oops.
