Pasta primavera with chicken, and a mug of cabernet. Surprisingly good! My last experience with dehydrated meals was ~25 years ago, they've come a loooong way since then.

Camp and survival foods are downright sophisticated at this point. My pantry has upper shelving completely stocked with Mountain Home (and others) meals for the volcanic apocalypse and not only does it have a ~30yr shelf life due to the freeze dried combo of Mylar and tasty food preservatives, they’re damned delicious meals.

We had our first practice for mass producing onion rings, anticipating having to fry 150-200 of them for our motorcycle club event in August.

We're feeling pretty good about two dutch oven fryers being able to keep up with the grill, which should be able to produce a cheesesteak about every 90 seconds.

Fresh lettuce and radishes from the garden for burger garnish. I somehow managed to bake buns in the middle of cutting firewood.

Mix of wild strawberries from the lawn and some from a local farmstand. Child-made pound cake and whipped cream. Yes, that fork is sticky.

That pizza actually looks kind of good.

I don't think I've had Papa John's since the 90s. It wasn't Papa John's, though. It was Papa Giano's or something because there already was an entrenched Papa John's franchise in mid-Michigan that refused to give up the name.
I had Papa Gino's in the early 2000s in Indiana.

I grilled Pops a rather impressive feast for F-Day and wow was it a home run! Huge cut marinated in Yoshida’s, olive oil, shoyu, minced garlic, black pepper, and a heavy dash of everything bagel seasoning. Behold!

No monster Island Beef cut escapes some full plating of sides! Garden salad, grilled veggies, fresh peas, oven-crisped golden potatoes with salt rub, and cheese bread balls. Food coma, unlocked!

That’s a charger for plating scale :) watchout @Yagisama you’ve got appetite competition now!
Oh I missed the cheese bread balls in the first shot:

First grill of the (absurdly hot) season: Seattle style teriyaki and cabbage salad (dressing: 2tbs mayo, 1tbs sugar, 2tbs rice vinegar, sesame oil / pepper / powdered ginger to taste).

"What if somebody wants theirs well-done?"

"We ask them politely, yet firmly, to leave."

Ribeye steaks, Old English sausages, with tomato, red onion, garlic and chilli reducing in the skillet. (Got a decent amount of colour on those steaks after I took this photo, but had to stop faffing about with my phone and give them some attention!)

Another nice evening, another barbecue! Chicken quarters in a yoghurt, garam masala, lemon, chilli and ginger marinade. Chicken thighs in a Cajun spice, yoghurt and chilli marinade (those are for lunches next week) plus char-grilled sweet peppers and halloumi.

(For vegetarians playing along at home, or anyone planning to barbecue for veggies, that sweet red pepper & halloumi combo is a real winner. The soft, sweet pepper and chewy, salty halloumi with a little crunch from grilling is really good. I guarantee it’ll be better received than a supermarket veggie burger. 🙂)

I picked up a couple lugs worth of Blenheim apricots (just over 40 lbs/20 kg) and am geared up for a serious jam session today. I also roasted some yesterday, to try using it for making semi-freddo. I can say that the semi-freddo turned out very nicely.

Tree-ripe Blenheim apricots are about the only thing I like about the warm summer months. A pity the season is so short, maybe only 2 weeks or so.

Not particularly aesthetically pleasing, but too clever not to share. Stuffed French toast made with old hot dog buns for breakfast today

My daughter saw some youtube short of someone doing that and insisted I do it a few weeks back. It turned out ok I think(they were brioche buns) but I think I would have rather stuck with a burger bun if I was gonna do that again.

Herb containers are getting overgrown so tried to cram as many as I could into one meal. Striploin basted with butter and rosemary, aparagus with sage & lemon zest, and "caprese". Didn't have the time to cook the steak sous vide as is my preference so I overshot medium rare. Enjoyed it anyway.

Too funny! We'd not actually heard of it before, my wife just asked for stuffed French toast and I said we had these hot dog buns, how funny would it be to put the stuff in the hot dog buns to make stuffed French toast.

The second-closest pub to our house* has an excellent restaurant attached. The day's awful hayfever was abating a bit by the evening, so we decided to treat ourselves.

Starter: white pudding bonbon with gammon and confit egg yolks.

IMG_1513.jpeg

Main: mutton curry with sticky rice and a mango salsa.

IMG_1515.jpeg

Both delicious. Much too full for dessert!

*A couple of hundred yards. The actual closest pub is sufficiently near that, if I pick the right table, I can see my home wifi as a network option on my phone… :)
