My (young) son has really been getting into cars so got him to watch a couple episodes of Initial D

I had completely forgotten about the creepy sugar daddy plotline. Fortunately, at least in the dub, I dont think anything too explicit is ever said or shown so it'll probably just go over his head but yikes 😬

So I have an anime-adjacent question. Well over a decade ago I bought a complete set of figurines from an anime series, but they eventually ended up back in their boxes and stored away. I realized I'm never going to display them again, so I'd rather sell them. Aside from the usual suspects like eBay and Craigslist, are there any good places to put them up for sale? (The last complete set of these sold on eBay for $1k, so they're definitely of interest to collectors.)

TIL that, after the success of the Urusei Yatsura reboot, there's now going to be a Ranma 1/2 reboot as well. I'm a little conflicted.

As much as I loved Ranma 1/2 when I was a twenty-something who regularly went to Little Tokyo to pick up new "raw" episodes every few weeks, I don't think Ranma, as it was originally written, would do so well now. It was one of the pioneers of some very popular tropes (particularly harem shows with clown casts), but people who didn't experience it the first time will see it as too derivative. Unlike Urusei Yatsura, which had no respectable/likeable protagonists (which was part of the running gags), Ranma's biggest draw is its large cast of characters, many of which are thirsting for either Ranma or Akane... or both. I'd want a rewrite on the characters, to make at least Ranma, Akane, and Shampoo a bit less of stereotypical trope bait, and plan out a through-line on relationships. Show a growing respect between Ranma and Akane over time, at least, and not just keep reverting to the "You saw my boobs, so I have to pound you, even though it might be my fault (and I might be a little jealous of the fact your boobs are slightly bigger)" gag over and over. And make Shampoo have a little more depth to her character as well, while we're at it.

I got one of the new color Kobos, and I just wanted to mention it's great for manga. It's the right size, and even if it's just the covers that are color most of the time. Just an FYI for anyone that likes to read their manga digitally. Sadly, it's too small to read western comics comfortably.

There won't be any filler this time, and generally, they stick more closely to the source. Just look at Rurouni Kenshin, which they re-did in 2023. The things you are asking to fix are problems with the original manga, and unless the author decides to redo it, that's not likely to happen. I suspect they're doing it, because like Rurouni Kenshin, the much later (and better) story arcs were never adapted.

B&W manga is okay on the Kindle, just frustratingly laggy at times.

So I guess Laid Back (Yuru) Camp season 3 is done? It’s kind of an odd, meandering season and ends with Rin and Nadeshiko planning another camping trip. I thought it would end with that trip, but I guess not. Still cozy and fun, just not quite as the previous two seasons or OVA.

And I want to subject someone to that spicy ginger ale recipe now… This season was still pretty good about introducing camp recipes, though camp techniques and equipment wasn’t featured as much as before.

Now that I’m actually able to do cardio again without feeling like my abs are going to jump out of my body and beat the rest of me to death? I’ve started watching again while on the exercise bike. Finally caught up to Kaiju No. 8, still a very fun show. And I’ve started in on Overtake! because.. well.. racing. It’s Japanese Formula 4, and the first episode does a pretty good job of doing the whole, “So you are new to motorsport, let me explain some things.” I wonder where the story is going to go, but the animation on track is very pretty.
