Picked up an inexpensive fly rod because I wanted to test out fly fishing. I've been spin casting for a couple of years, I could go over to Orvis for lessons, but they'd laugh at my rod and suggest I buy some carbon fiber nonsense that costs more than my first car did. So I'll watch youtube videos.

New glasses actually do adjust my astigmatism so my small cataract is in the uncorrected part of my progressives. It is like it isn't there!

And got my garage/basement work location setup, and even convinced Rocky to hang out down here so he doesn't melt.

My office is currently 29.5C (85f) compared to 23C (73f) in the basement. I should have set this up sooner!

It's not even sunrise yet, but a couple of days ago I bought 2 lbs of plums, and the one I just ate was considerably sweeter than the first one from the bag.

Things to look forward to today:

Doing a little maintenance work around the lab, then slacking off for most of the day. Until NexAir makes their next delivery, I've only got enough compressed air to run my instrument for maybe 10 hours. I'll avoid using it today and work late Monday so I can use it up running samples as opposed to going through an extra warmup/testing/calibration sequence that probably wouldn't let me test any samples on a second day anyhow.

It's Friday.

It's Food Truck Friday. With luck, I'll be able to get jaegerschnitzel within a block or two of the local breweries.

Our friends from Washington are flying in to hang out for the weekend so that's awesome!

Also, on Wednesday I managed to finally get my boat started. Been remodeling a 24' pontoon boat for 2 1/2 years, was almost done with it when it got caught up in the fire we had here and it melted all the wiring I had just redone. I was so frustrated I couldn't even look at the damned thing for like 1.5 years. Finally getting back to it and knocking things off the list. Another 6-8 hour day and I should be ready to put it in for a test run in the lake!

Got caught up on my backlog today, which is good because my boss's boss just told me I have so much work coming down the pipe I am going to be buried. Just in the nick of time!

Also, Mrs. F wants to start learning Azure. Since I have to get some certifications knocked out, this means I not only don't have to feel bad because I am carving out study time (read as: alone time), but I will have a study partner. :)

In about 2 hours I'll will be on vacation for 3 weeks. Although the first week will be taking a group of young men to scout summer camp.
I’ve got two shifts to go (a 12h to tonight and a normal 8hr tomorrow), and then shall also be on vacation for three weeks. My first week us dealing with house issues, several states away. But after that? Hell yes!

My employer has decided to give us Friday, July 5th off paid, which turns it into a 4-day weekend. W00t!
You can watch the UK general election results. If you take a shot every time a Tory loses their seat, you should hit kidney failure around 2:30am (UK time) and liver failure about 4:00am. If you do a double every time a front bench minister loses their seat, you’ll be dead by 3:00am. :)

Hell Yeah!, watched the game yesterday (for me technically today since it started 2am) and now I'm not missing game 7

Tuesday is going to be a rough day at work...
I think I can tell from here you may have a fever. IANAD and IANYD but maybe you should take it easy and stay at home that day. You can tell them that is my very valid internet opinion.

It's probably much easier to learn from a person who can watch how you do it and tell you what you're doing wrong. Do you know anybody that fly fishes? There's also techniques to learn on how to set up your rig, how to tie the right knots, etc.

I have a sunroom. Said sunroom has been shut down for a few years, until I could get some roof problems fixed. As such, it became a storage area/staging area for house projects, meaning it was a massive clutter bomb and going into it stressed me out. Since it is gross and rainy outside today, I de-cluttered it. Mostly. I still have a round table to get rid of, a wood stove to remove, and a more thorough, massive cleaning than I did today. But, at least it isn't horrifying to enter any longer.

The key is starting....but also not stopping.

I had a whole box of travel maps/ideas/pamphlets/newspaper yada yada. I was going to go through it, honest. Then I just said fuck this, I am never going to do that so turfed it all. Once that got me going, it was onto old paper tax returns - scan and shred. Next up, cables - I have who knows how many but surely I don't need em all.

Cold beer and air conditioning.

Edit. And two brats with kraut and spicy brown mustard.
Okay, now I need to go dig around in the deep freeze. I know I have "spicy kraut" (ie kimchi) and brown mustard.

Edit: No brats, but I did excavate a couple of ribeyes and a nice pork shoulder. :)

14 hours total sleep, and I am not 100% right as rain but COVID isn't absolutely kicking my ass.

And we had another dump of thick white tree pollen so I finally assembled the power washer we got on sale, and managed to get the deck mostly washed.

It will need a second run, but overall looks way better.

Got wireless links set up between my kitchen, dining room, and main living room speakers, and got phone control of my media library on my PC working. 90% of the functionality of a fancy Sonos setup for a bare fraction of the cost, and a little bit of time poking some open source software.

We have three TV's that have all started having issues at almost the same time. It can't be planned obsolescence as they're from different manufacturers and were bought at different times, but it's massively annoying that we need to replace the lot.

Then I got one of those annoying "BIG EOFY SALES!" emails from a local business. I actually opened it up and decided "Yes, we'll go shopping today and get three TVs, given this additional 15% off" as we were planning on shopping tomorrow.

Okay, they're still making a good profit but it's going to put nearly a grand in our pockets once all's said & done and that's not chicken feed!
