The 10mm scale Favela board is still alive and well. More buildings off the printer and as more come off, slowly working the layout. There'll be just a few roads, everything else will be mostly single file person spaces between buildings. I'm loving it so far and cannot wait to get all the buildings and then start the ground/hills process. It's going to be 3 levels of hills.

I will be finishing it up and taking it to Warzone Houston in Sep for some 10mm Ultramodern Skirmish and also Delta Green/Ultramod hybrid gaming.

Played this weekend, pivoted slightly due to other players not making it. We did a 1v1vZ game which turned out pretty good. It didn't end up being an RPG Hybrid, but thought I would still share it anyways with you all.

My buddy Nick ran A Cell and I ran R Cell and it just goes to show, you can be all sneaky and quiet and have the perfect plan, then take a shot to the face right at the end, and it all unravels...But hey...when in doubt ram them with the USPS Van, or whatever Sun Tzu said.Let me know if you have any questions

The once-thriving Midwestern city now lay in ruins, overrun by the undead. Two Delta Green cells, A Cell and R Cell, had been deployed with a singular mission: capture a scientist employed by the shadowy Umbrella Corporation and uncover any clandestine advancements facilitated by the corporation's resources. The scientist, held under guard by Umbrella operatives, was key to understanding the outbreak and possibly stopping it. A Cell, led by Agent Larson, infiltrated from the east through an abandoned warehouse. They moved with the precision of seasoned operatives, encountering minimal resistance until they exited the warehouse. Outside, a panel truck stood waiting, but it proved troublesome to access. Their delay attracted zombies from all directions. As the horde closed in, Larson was overwhelmed, dragged down amidst the chaos. Desperate, A Cell piled into the truck and barreled through the undead, making their way to the 11-11 gas station where the scientist was held. R Cell, approaching from the west, slipped in behind a derelict Whataburger. They encountered zombies almost immediately, their silenced weapons snapping in the quiet, infected streets. Each encounter was a harrowing test of nerves as they made their methodical approach toward the center of town. The gas station was their focal point, but it soon became a battlefield. The 11-11 gas station loomed ahead, a grim fortress in the apocalyptic landscape. A Cell arrived first, screeching to a halt under the overhang. They moved swiftly, neutralizing the Umbrella guard and securing the scientist. As they prepared for a quick exit, R Cell arrived from the opposite side, their presence heralded by gunfire. In the chaos, R Cell mistook A Cell for hostiles. A brief but deadly firefight ensued, resulting in an A Cell member falling and R Cell seizing a USPS van for their assault. Determined to complete their mission, R Cell's heavy gunner climbed onto the van's roof, poised to take out the remaining A Cell operatives. But A Cell, ever vigilant, eliminated the threat with surgical precision. With the guard and scientist now in their custody, A Cell loaded them into the panel truck and prepared to escape. R Cell, realizing their mission was at risk of complete failure, resorted to desperate measures. The driver floored the accelerator, aiming their van directly at the escaping panel truck. The impact was catastrophic. The van exploded, the panel truck careened into another vehicle, and in the ensuing wreckage, the scientist was killed instantly. As the dust settled and the remaining R Cell members emerged from the wreckage, and surveyed the bodies around them, a grim realization set in. They had prevented any potentially dangerous knowledge from escaping but at a steep cost. The lines between friend and foe, mission success and abject failure, had blurred irreparably. In the aftermath, questions lingered. Was their violent intervention justified? Were they truly acting under Delta Green's orders, or had they been manipulated into rogue actions? And what of Umbrella Corporation? Their involvement hinted at darker, sinister, more occult secrets. Unbeknownst to the operatives, Umbrella's reach extended far deeper than the visible chaos, with motives and machinations that threatened to unravel everything the agents held dear. As R Cell limped away from the smoldering wreckage, the mission's ambiguity gnawed at them. They had followed orders to the letter, yet the outcome was a Pyrrhic victory at best. With the scientist dead and no clear answers, the true nature of Umbrella Corporation's experiments remained shrouded in mystery. And as the night settled over the ruined city, it became painfully clear that the real horrors were just beginning.

"Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a [USPS Van]."

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Neat to see all the different games out there, I've not seen this one before!
Glad you liked it. I never know if I over share or not lol. Ultramodern is my jam now, used to be BFG -> 40k -> 30k - Ultramodern with dabbling in other small skirmish things

At work on a one off Battletech model for the same paint roulette challenge I did last year. Still a lot to go but I'm happy with how it's coming together.

Yeah, the thing here is everyone gets a couple of random things they have to include in their paint job. I pulled 'inked' and 'basic' where inked is described as "flames, bones, thorns, and other sort of pattern or iconography you'd expect to see on a reasonably tasteful if ill-advised tattoo". Basic is essentially just pick a color and only use shades and tints of it.

I interpreted the basic part to just apply to the armor, it might not be exactly what was intended but doing the whole model in one color would not look good. So instead all of the red/flames contain the same base red and are going to eventually get glazed over with that same hue.

So, I'm working on establishing a new workspace for my miniatures, as well as figuring out an actual gaming space. My workshop space will be roughly 6'x9', which is pretty compact from my perspective (I have long been spoiled by having big workspaces, but sharing them with others. In this case the workspace is mine alone). So, has anyone got any recommendations for lighting (preferably room scale, rather than specific to a small area, some of my projects are big enough I have trouble getting them in airbrush booths), organizers, etc? Because I'm used to taking a lot of approaches that really aren't optimal from a space perspective, and I feel like trying to work on large models or terrain pieces in this workspace without taking care to preserve space would be difficult.

Plus, I finally broke down and decided to stop my habit of using random paints out of twenty ranges, and having difficulting getting finishes and textures to match at times, and bought the Army painter Warpaint Fanatic and Air complete sets (I also probably can just grab the speed paint complete set I left with my brother, as well, to complete the range).

Finally, some pictures of starting a color scheme for Taunar armor, since I plan to use these guys on a display board at Origins game fair in a few weeks. Nothing super fancy planned, since I don't know if the show is following through on their idea of giving us a reserved spot for it in the vendor hall that will have people kept back out of arms reach, or if it's going in my gaming groups area, where I will have to worry about people wanting to take a look at it (and potentially borrowing models out of it for Titan Fight).

A photo of a very-terrain-covered pair of gaming boards. The terrain is all industrial-looking rusty ruins and big steam-punk looking pipes. At the left are my Space Marines in very large rich red armour, all wearing no helmets as befits the Rule of Cool and carrying either a chainsword and pistol or a big bolt gun. At the right at the Custodes which are made up two separate groups of one VERY CHONKY fellow in big gold armour with two Sisters of Silence next to them, who are also clad in golden armour but are much smaller in stature. The Sisters are bald except for a ponytail topknot, two of them have glowing blue power swords and the others have regular guns. Finally at far side across the board and barely visible are the Chaos Legionaries who are all mutated-looking and wearing black armour with gold trim.

We had our mostly-regular fortnightly game of Kill Team tonight, and we ended up playing on open board instead of Into The Dark because one of my friends was in a rush to leave and forgot his set of terrain (you need two sets to play more than two players). It was my Intercession squad versus the Talons of the Emperor versus Chaos Legionaries, and we only got part-way through the third turn before we had to call it primarily because it took long enough to set up all the open board terrain that we started later than usual. 😛 It was a fantastic game though, I didn't win but the final score was 6-5-5 to the Legionaries and I absolutely would have won if we'd gone all the way through to turn four.

The Talons of the Emperor team was two Adeptus Custodes and four Sisters of Silence, and despite the Custodes being terrifying with a 2+ save and 18 wounds AND one of them having a 4+ invulnerable save, it turns out if you manage to put ENOUGH firepower into them they'll go down. This also wasn't helped by my friend being extremely aggressive with them and thinking that they'd be hardier than they actually ended up being! I managed to put 8 wounds into the one with the storm shield in one attack in the second turn thanks to some very excellent rolling from Sister Lucena with her "Doom Bolter" (our nickname for the Bolt Rifle + Vengeance-Class Scope + Reclusiam-Blessed Bolts equipment combination).

When we finished, the Talons of the Emperor were down to only two Sisters of Silence and the Chaos Legionaries had only two miniatures left, all of them very wounded, but I still had three of mine left, two of whom were completely unwounded: Sister Lucena with her Doom Bolter, Sister Ephestri with the auxiliary grenade launcher, and the half-wounded Sister Genevane who continued her streak of being awesome by accounting for Legionaries' leader and psyker. Though to be fair, my Assault Grenadier Sister Decimica deserves the bulk of the credit for taking out the leader because it was her krak grenade that took him down to two wounds, and it WOULD have killed him outright except the Legionaries had used the Mutagenic Flesh strategic ploy that reduced non-critical damage on every attack dice by one!

Alright folks, needing a thought on hair color for what I'm working on at the moment.

Currently leaning towards Iyanden Yellow (Yellow-Orange), Nazdreg Yellow (Yellow-Brown), or Gryph-Hound Orange. Also thinking about Volupos Pink or Magus Purple. Suggestions and thoughts?

I have most of the contrast and speed paint colors available.

20240528_231421_n.jpg

Also, I managed to get perfect focus on the brushes, but not the mini. That's amusing. I'll post finished mini pictures once I'm done with the hair and basing.

It's mostly about a compositional choice.

A purple, pink, or turquoise would keep the color palette more unified through the piece. An orange'y red is the complementary color to the overall turquoise scheme of the model so you'll draw a lot more attention to the face and head with hair that color. If you're feeling spicy you could do it purple fading to a green/yellow. This is a useful tool if you don't have something like a color wheel handy.

For a gameplay piece I favor higher contrast, you want pops of strong color and interest that draw your eye to important focal points.

I can make a bunch of recommendations but a big part of this is going to depend on budget. Do you have any kind of price range or restrictions you want to keep within?

Honestly, right now I'm trying to keep a tighter budget, but I also know that I can always revisit the issue later when money's less tight, or wait to get a given thing until the budget fits. So if you have a decent budget desk light you could recommend and a nice room scale one, and organizers that are either free to print/laser or are just laser cut (because reverse engineering them is simple enough with a flatbed scanner), that would be fantastic

I consider a good light to be one of the most important things you can have in miniature painting, if not the most important. You can work around paints with bad coverage, cheap synthetic brushes, or PVC models with soft detail but you can't paint if you can't see.

On the extreme low end of the budget you could look at something like this. It doesn't give a lumen rating, but at 1660 lux is pretty close to the lumen rating for the area you'd be working in. That isn't as bright as I'd like, but it's solid enough. It's also got an adjustable color temperature, which I find fairly important. Doing all your painting under something like a super warm filament light or a very cold LED can skew your output and make things look weird outside of that extreme light. Worst case, if it isn't bright enough it is less than $20 bucks... get two.

A bit more expensive is something along these lines. Brighter, bigger, and still adjustable brightness . For an extra ten bucks you can get the same lamps with CCT and be able to adjust the temp, but the default is 5600k which is a reasonable color temp.

I current use two lamps, this one which is also from Neatfi along with the Regrass R9. This is not a cost focused solution, but figured I should throw in there what I am using for reference and comparison.

For storage it is going to mostly depend on what you're trying to store. Paints? Tons of free/cheap STL's out there you can just print. Places like Gamecraft and HobbyZone are amongst a bunch of people that make pre-built modular solutions out of MDF. There are less of them, but if you want a bit fancier option or don't like MDF there are places like Cobalt Keep or Back 2 Base-ix that offer plastic or acrylic products.

Thanks!

I ended up with a yellow - orange - red fade. Amusingly, I have another model I'm finishing up which is basically a green/yellow fade to blue/purple.

I'm reading the BattleTech core rule book. I'm hoping to find a game or two this summer.
I should probably pick up some of the rule books in print form. I got the digital ones from that Humble Bundle a while back, but it would be nice to have the hardcopy. Then maybe I can learn more than the tiny bit I know right now! :eng101:

It looks like they're mostly sold out in physical form, barring some stores having them on shelves; the ones I go to typically do not.

This is mildly annoying, as I really would like the stats on the gear that I see in the post-3067 TROs. Sure, I can get the box set, but I have no real intention of playing.

I keep having intentions of playing, but given how many times I've played in the past year, I'm starting to think my intentions are unrealistic...

Almost there on this I think. Waiting for the pin wash to dry (hence why it's a little shiny here), then it's just last touches and making a base.

I have some small scale flamejob stencils from Death Ray Designs I want to try on some mechs and see if they end up being viable. This looks awesome though.

I have a Binary of Jade Falcon Delta Galaxy stuff I'm working on right now. First time I'm doing any decal work since I was a kid, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. You were not even a little big wrong about the FPG decals being fragile, though.

I have FINALLY gotten around to taking proper photos of the Warhammer Quest miniatures I've painted so far!

Spoilered because 17 images. 😁

(Not every single one because there are ten zombies all up for example, but I've taken a representative sample of the ones where there's multiple miniatures of a similar type).

Cheers!

I use a few sheets of A4 printer paper curved up behind the miniatures, flash with a shoot-through umbrella off the left of frame and a "reflector" (read: piece of aluminium foil wrapped around a piece of cardboard) on the right, and my DSLR on a tripod. Then I bring the photos into Lightroom, add a mask to the background and then increase the exposure so it blows out to pure white.
