And with that, the Intercession team is complete! So very happy with how these came out, but let me tell you, I am not doing this much edge highlighting ever again. 😂

A photo of Space Marines, three Assault Intercessors and three standard Intercessors. They're all wearing standard massive Space Marine armour with big shoulder pads painted in a deep rich red, the Assault Intercessors all look like they're mid-stride and are wielding got pistols and chainswords, and one has a grenade in her hand and looks like she's about to lob it. The other three are holding big boltguns, two look like they're in the middle of firing and the third had hers held upright in one hand while she points commandingly with the other. None of them have helmets and they've all got either mohawks or very short cropped hair and various cybernetic implants. Their guns and chainswords are all black and they've got various brown leather pouches attached to their waists. The bases are done up to look like battlefield mud, it's all dark brown and wet-looking and splattered part-way up their shins, and there's some swampy-looking grasses and green goopy swamp water on the bases too.

Got my FSA Flotilla done for tomorrow's game against my work buddy, lunchtime gaming can be fun.

I still need to figure out the tiny planes on the carrier, but overall happy with how they turned out. Good/different look to my russians (borodino battleship pictured).

Let me know what you all think!

Speaking of, we played a three-player game of Kill Team on Sunday night, my Death Guard versus the Strike Force Justinian team versus Genestealers. My friend with the Genestealers actually used a set of xenomorph models from some Aliens game and on the Into The Dark terrain it looked SO good.

We finally had our rematch of this game, and I ended up winning 8-7-4! The Death Guard felt very thematic, it was a slow plodding advance across the battlefield and they were difficult to kill as usual (though the Disgustingly Resilient rolls were a lot swingier than normal this game, I either did fantastically well—my plasma gunner took nine damage from the Space Marine sniper and would have died but ended up rolling so well he only took four, and subsequently ended up vaporising the sniper in his own activation—or really badly—my Fighter took something like ten damage in his first melee combat and saved NONE of it—with nothing in between).

Both my leader and my Fighter were sitting on two wounds for a while, and my plasma gunner finished the game on only two wounds left as well. The plasma guy did a fantastic job, despite only shooting three times he absolutely vaporised his targets in the one shot and accounted for two Space Marines and a Genestealer.

My friend playing the "Tyranids" brought three "Warriors" instead of the additional five "Genestealers" that were some other sort of xenomorph and they looked brilliant too, and we had some quality cinematic moments there as well.

A photo of a game of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. The board looks like the metal of the inside of an ancient steampunk starship, and the terrain is a bunch of walls all connected together in the same steampunk style to form number of interconnecting rooms. On the right of the board are the xenomorphs from Aliens pretending to be Genestealers, painted in a very dark blue colour. On the left are the six hulking and putrid Death Guard in large military green amour with all sorts of tentacles and demon faces coming out of the armour, and at the far side away from the camera are six Ultramarines of broadly the same shape armour as the Death Guard, but it's a rich blue and doesn't have tentacles and demon faces in it.

A closeup of my Death Guard Fighter, who is wearing hulking green armour with a HUGE toothed mouth in his chest armour going across his whole abdomen and chest and wielding two plague knives, facing off against one of the xenomorph "Warriors", which is down on four legs and looks like it's about to pounce. To the side is a smaller xenomorph more upright behind a set of ammo crates.

A close-up of a Space Marine aiming his boltgun (complete with a 3D-printed muzzle flash weapon effect) at one of the Tyranid Warriors, while a second one lurks just around the corner behind him.

Golden Demon winners from Adepticon. I highly recommend everyone checkout the Slayer Sword winner and just boggle at the talent of it. The more I look, the more amazing it becomes with the little nuances.

Also, happy to see that Ninjon placed Bronze for his AoS unit he put together.

Oh man, that sculpt/model that got bronze for LOTR is roooough.

Slayer’s sword is very cleverly done, although unless the banshee has some thematic thing (no idea who the hollow whatever is), I feel like the reflection impact might’ve been better without it?

Ninjon’s unit is excellent - feels good old Empire, like a scene out of one of the old novels.

So I have been seeing reports of high shipping costs from the Battletech: Mercenaries kickstarter. Sure as shit, for domestic shipping, I got $226 in shipping which just barely under doubled the cost of my pledge.
Dang, that's insane. I just checked and mine is $60 for domestic, which is almost twice what I paid for shipping on the Clan Invasion KS, and I bought a lot more from Clan Invasion. I'm holding off on paying until they figure it out, because there's a ton of unhappy comments on the KS about outrageous shipping costs.

I saw there was a bit of controversy over one of the entries using AI for the background.
I don't see the big deal using it. The judging is supposed to be based on the model right?
I agree on that front. IMO, the backgrounds are cool for viewers, but excepting the diorama categories, they should not even be shown to the judges (To a large extent, I feel the same about plinths. If it's not painted or modeled, it shouldn't be in front of the judges, but they look cool and to an extent a plinth makes it easier for a judge to handle and viewers to see multiple angles, not so for backgrounds). For the diorama categories, they're obviously part of it, and a printed background shouldn't be a particular positive, as the alternatives are modeled and painted backgrounds, which are WAY better demonstrations of skill.

I'm waiting for my Leviathans pledge through them as well......not a good sign for sure.
I'd be a bit worried, if they're packed anything like OG Leviathans. Those boxes were terrific wastes of space, probably better than 3x the actual needed volume, so that the boxes were big enough to feel the price was justified at retail (because painted models are obviously way more expensive than cardboard tokens)

The diorama of Terminators vs Genestealers really stands out to me, the object source lighting there is insanely detailed. I'm of course highly biased as a Tyranids player, but still, it looks like a 2d painting at first glance with how well it's done.

TurnBaseMiniatures is releasing a a new SCP team, so I needed to get my Delta Green shenanigans going again. Electronically kitbashed some DG Agenst for Overt/Covert operations, and then printing out an MH-6 and Iveco LMV for quick response forces.

The two agents came off the printer this morning and looked great so far. Cannot wait to slap some paint on them.

The prints came out ok, but more svelte than I would have liked. So I bumped them up 5% on all ways except height. I do dislike the inconsistencies in the gaming world with not having standard scales/measurements......but lost cause that...

I also did up a third Overt/Covert Agent, so all 3 (6) are on the printer right now.

What I find worse is the inconsistent ratios. GW historically has increased face/head and hand sizes so you can see the detail and have it jump out. Many more companies are doing realistic ratios, and I think they look so much better.

I played a game at home with the oldest of Dystopian Wars this weekend (don't judge, terrain is very work in progress and less good pictures due to me teaching him the game).

Empire of the Blazing Sun vs Federated States of America 1k-ish points per side (BLUF: I deployed poorly and it'll come back to bite me later on)

I moved up slower than I should have, moving with my frigates first, everyone big guns were too far out of range, but his last activation were his 3 cruiser who made it just far enough to reach and destroy one of my frigates, first blood to him. I wiped out all his frigates in one go, but he returned the favor and also blew up my lone cruiser (i should have deployed with the other two...). We ended up battleships at point blank range, with his 3 cruisers closing in on my battleships flank, I had no other ships remaining. After I whiffed a point-blank salvo, I withdrew from the battlefield, with what little of my fleet remained intact...

I forgot how important squadroning and deployment where in this game. Also, NOT going first unless you have something that will reach across the board on turn 1. Seeing where they deploy their big 'un at is more important in the long run. All-in-all a fun time, he wants to play more.

Now I need to finish up the Russians and show him an in close pounding.

I got to play my first Battletech: Alpha Strike game in ages today. It was to help a new friend learn the game. Each of us fielded a Star's worth of mechs from my collection that @Asmodan painted for me ages ago.

Clan Wolf in Exile Beta Galaxy forces:
Highlander IIC
Warhammer IIC
Marauder IIC
Shadow Cat Prime
Ebon Jaguar E

Clan Ghost Bear 1st Rasalhague Bears forces:
Kodiak
Marauder IIC
Warhammer IIC
Grizzly
Huntsman H

Scenario: If it moves, shoot it till it stops.

My opponent made some pretty good choices (with some advice from me), and I made some bad choices as learning exercises for him. Terrain layout on the table made long range chancy at best much of the time, and we both made decent use of cover until we could close the gap.

Once combat began, things got interesting very quickly as we both had machines capable of dealing heavy damage. My CGL Ghost Bear dice were rolling terribly so they got the axe and were replaced by some GameCraft D6s which behaved much better. I was able to take down his Highlander IIC with fire from several of my machines, but I paid for it the next turn, costing me my Kodiak and my Marauder IIC. Next my Grizzly jumped behind the Wolves Marauder IIC for a rear shot, doing a fair bit of damage, but the enemy Warhammer IIC got behind him to repay the favor. The next turn the Grizzly jumped into some woods to get some cover, but it did not save him. He did do more damage to the enemy Marauder IIC before going down. Then my Warhammer IIC went down, but not without inflicting heavy damage on the Marauder IIC the Wolves had. At that point all the Ghost Bears had remaining on the field was the Huntsman, so Hegira was granted and the Bears witthdrew.

A fun time was had by all, and we will be doing this again as soon as we can.

The Ghost Bear Marauder IIC and Kodiak go down. Star Captain Christopher in his trusty Kodiak named Pooh did not make it out of this one, sadly.

The backstabbing conga line forms up. Surprisingly, nobody died from it.

2024-04-13 17.34.00.jpg

The Grizzly jumped into some woods, but it did not save him. He did do a lot of damage to the Marauder IIC in the process, but not enough to bring it down.

2024-04-13 17.34.03.jpg

The Ghost Bear Warhammer IIC goes down. This left the Hutsman as their only combat effective unit. With no way to carry the day, the Ghost Bears retreated from the field.

Speaking of gaming, I took my shiny new Intercession squad out for the first time last night and was victorious, winning 16-11 over the filthy Chaos cultist heretics!

A photo of a game of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. The board looks like the metal of the inside of an ancient steampunk starship, and the terrain is a bunch of walls all connected together in the same steampunk style to form number of interconnecting rooms. At the left are my six converted all-women Space Marines clad in rich red armour, and on the right are the FOURTEEN miniatures of the Chaos Cultist team. At the start of the game here they're primarily just scrawny humans in ratty clothing and with rag-tag equipment, but they turn into slightly larger mutants and then BIG things called Torments.

A close-up shot of my Assault Intercessor Sister Genevane who is mid-stride through a hatchway pointing her big pistol at an ominous-looking figure who is wearing a cloak and wielding a huge evil-looking sword.

It was definitely an awful start though, absolutely atrocious dice rolling. At the start of turn two, my leader Sister Sarine fired her plasma pistol and of the four dice hitting on 3+, only ONE was a success (which was duly saved). Then she charged into combat, rolled five dice that would normally hit on 2+ but needed 3+ instead because of an aura effect the Chaos mutant I was fighting had, and EVERY SINGLE dice was a 2. 😑 She and my grenadier Sister Decima ended up getting killed within the first couple of activations of turn two, and two of the giant mutated Chaos Torments had spawned and it was looking very bad. Fortunately after that I was able to rally a bit and my dice rolling turned around, and player of the match goes to my remaining Assault Intercessor Sister Genevane who accounted for two Blessed Blades, a cultist, AND one of the huge Chaos Mutants.

Being able to move a full six inches — actually seven because I took the Chapter Tactic that gives an extra inch of movement — instead of the slow plodding four of the Death Guard meant I was able to move around the map a fair bit more, and the bulk of my victory points ended up being from scoring objectives. I definitely enjoyed playing the Intercession team and they don't have too many things to remember. I think my plan is going to be to pretty much take the exact same equipment and tac-ops each time until I get a proper handle on them.

Oh man, looks like that was fun. And those 'Mechs all look great! :D I need to get back into it with my oldest... Maybe we'll at least paint some 'Mechs up sometime soon.

By the way, for anyone who is interested in BattleTech fiction (and doesn't have all of it), there's a Humble Bundle running right now that builds on the last fiction bundle, with 70 additional books. Even though I had several of the books, it was still worth picking up for me. Though now my reading backlog is at almost 80 books...

My Russian Coalition - Ottoman Empire joint fleet for an upcoming game. Buddy wanted to play a big game, and have not yet acquired enough medium ships to play a pure Russo fleet. So mish mash/allies it is.

Funny thing is, I realized that with the russians laying mines, the majority of the ottomans put down storm cloud cover, and the ottoman battleship can force move mine..........Slingshot, engaged!

Oh what to say. Nick and I played a 1175pts per side game of Dystopian Wars yesterday at Knight's Watch Games. It was...brutual...

First moves slowly advanced in towards the middle (there was a VIP to 'rescue' at the center island harbor) and I started dropping storm clouds to cover my approach.

At the end of the first turn, only a Stolz Destroyer from the Prussian side was lost, initial contacts had just scraped the surface of everyone's armor.

Turn two everyone pushed for the center harbor, Nick had a squad almost inside the harbor at this point and the first casualties had dropped. a Peset Submarine for the Russians and a Hussar Gunship for the Prussian side. Storm clouds where everywhere, obscuring vision, movement and shots. A negated boarding action happened on the far right side of the battlefield, much distanced from the main battle...causing a Fettah Cruiser to be emptied of men, dereplicated, and to cause it to slowly drift off into the sunset.

The harbor, oh the harbor. Congested, contested, packed...

Nick grabs the VIP, I throw down as many storm clouds, surface mines as possible, and then try sinking his Dreadnought. Nothing...

I know I cannot boarding his frigate and get the VIP with his Dreadnought looming in the smoke, so I do the only logical thing.........I sink the ship, lost the VIP and end the game...lol

Been working on the Thousand Sons pretty continuously. The Miniwargaming trip is in mid July and I'll be part of a two versus two Horus Heresy batrep with my friend that I took there for his bachelor party the year before last. As he tries to take revenge on Luka's Space Wolves for the humiliating defeat Angron suffered we've pulled in the only people that might hate Russ more... the Thousand Sons. So it'll be my friends World Eaters along with my Thousand Sons against Luka's Space Wolves and (I believe) Josh's Sisters of Silence.

Last week I finished up my Life Wards, part of a special Thousand Sons unit called the Numerologist Cabal. They don't have official models and barely have any official fluff so I got to go wild with them. I inverted the color scheme and used the white that I've been using as the accent color as the main on these. Very happy with how these came together, the recipe I've been using for white is just a pleasure to do and pretty darn easy. Models are a combination of resin bodies from Tortuga Bay, shoulder pads by LordChammon on Cults, GW plastic kits, and some printed heads that I forget where I got.

Those are really pretty. I love the reverse color scheme.

Will the batrep be on YT?

50/50. Some end up on YouTube for free, some end up behind a paywall as part of their membership.

The look great!
Since your gaming with these models I was wondering what you do for protecting the paint.
Do you just matt varnish, or I have heard of people doing matt, gloss and then matt again.

Most everything I paint has multiple layers of varnish on it. It's mostly to manipulate surface behavior for things like transfer application or washes or to change the final finish. The metallic red, which is the primary color for the rest of the army, has a layer of gloss before transfers, a layer of gloss to seal transfers, then a couple layers of a satin/gloss mix for the final finish.

The white here has a layer of satin/matte to seal for protection and to unify the finish.

So I've gotten through a lot of the orcs so far.
I still have more to get through though!

one interesting thing worth showing is that i have modified a display case that i got.
Its an Ikea model that is discontinued now.
I got some perspex sheets, cut them to size, although i had some issues as I don't have a coping saw yet, but will get one.
I then drilled holes in each of the corners and put in cable ties.
I then put cable ties around the cabinet metal bar frame and looped them into the other cable ties.
I'm pretty happy with the result.
I'll be doing it for the rest of the cabinet.

PXL_20240503_105032788.jpg

I also started to practice how to do NMM with left over bits.
Here's a webpage that has been quite helpful to me in learning/understanding the concepts.
NMM Tutorial
Hopefully its useful to others too.

I'm still only grasping the concepts.
One thing that was really useful was basing in white, and then holding it directly under a light where you want the light source to be for the NMM.
That gave me the areas to darken and others to keep white.

Cool. Let us know when it's published. I'll toss them some cash to watch you play.

Fun times.... our group got a message from Miniwargaming Josh yesterday informing us that MWG is closing down the Bunker (the rooms you can stay at their facility) so we wouldn't be able to stay there and would not have 24/7 access to the gaming hall since we wouldn't be on site. Essentially we'd be making a thirty hour round trip drive to stay in a random hotel and spend a a little bit of time there during normal business hours to film a couple of batreps.

Needless to say no one was enthused with that idea. Refunds have already been received, game will unfortunately not be happening.

GenCon is the alternative I proposed to the group of guys I was going to Canada with. I was going to skip it this year since it was the sandwiched between going to Canada for MWG and flying to NYC to see a concert but with MWG off the table it's more feasible. I probably will shoot down there for a day at minimum, some of the Battletech painting and sculpting folks I know are going to be there and I only get to see most of those guys in person once or twice a year.

Cool. If you go and have a little time and can find the Glass Cannon Network booth, tell either Joe, Troy, or Skid that George from NJ says hello.
