Here's the official page. Duncan Fisher will be present! Though that should be expected, given it's Solaris. I'm looking forward to it.

Hell yes. Only thing that might make this better is they set the most difficult Solaris fight against an odd married couple from the Periphery consisting of a highly-modded OP Urbanmech and a batshit insane Elemental...

So, this (base game only) was in a Humble Bundle I got as a gift. 2 Questions:

1) What are the co-op options? (co-options?) The copy says campaign or instant action. PvE comp stomp is just fine.
2) Recommended controls? I've got a controller, as well as a HOTAS. I was wondering if using the yaw on the stick will make torso-twisting, walking, and firing less disorienting? I'm also fine with rearranging my desk to play, say, joystick and keyboard. Or throttle and mouse, I'm not picky!

Co-op is a "someone takes over your employee's mech". They don't get money to their campaign. They can just help you kill things.

I did fine with mouse/keyboard, but a 4-button or more mouse is encouraged.

You have to reach a certain level in the campaign before co-op unlocks. Or you can download a mod called co-op unlocker.

I use mouse and keyboard, but used to use mouse and throttle with my old stick and throttle. The mouse controlled the upper torso rotation, and the rocker on the throttle controlled the lower torso rotation. Weapons were primarily on the mouse, but some weapon configs ended up on the throttle due to being limited in button selection on the mouse.

Just watched the second Clans trailer… “Kuritan fascist” said the Smoke Jaguar… See, this is why I like the merc angle. I am far less likely to get an eye injury from excessive rolling, as I am more focused on the c-bills and not the insufferable idjits I work for.

In other news, one of the mods I have loaded added an… Interesting… Mech to the game. It’s a 125t Marauder II with the capacity to hold two fusion cores. So now I have a 125t mech that does 84kph, carries two RAC/20’s, two C ER PPC’s, has 104 armor on each leg alone, Targeting Computer 4, and generally is the most “my OC doughnut steel” mech I have seen. Like, I solo level 15 missions in it without a sweat. Now it was eye wateringly expensive to build and maintain, I started with 738mil c-bills and I got down to 7mil, but oh man it slaps. My buddies I co-op with refuse to drop alongside it because they generally don’t get to deal any damage, never mind get kills, when this thing is on the field. Whats funnier was when I dropped the cored a size down to free up tonnage for the Void Signature System and made it cloak. Unfortunately the heat build up was too much and I had a tendency to cook off my ammo if I forgot to decloak before engaging.

I'm convinced the only people in the BT Universe that aren't complete assholes are most anyone that looks to the IS and says "No, thank you." Well, that and maybe Rasalhague/Ghost Bear.

Oh, those two have done plenty of assholish things. Especially to each other when they both picked up the idiot ball post merger and had a small civil war over… Reasons? Anyhow, I think the Outworlds Alliance pre-Clan Snow Raven takeover was the closest thing to not being assholes. But they were so small and decentralized that they were largely irrelevant. Their most notable contribution being the Merlin, a very ok medium mech but the first in over a century to be designed during the Succession Wars. Canopus was relatively ok pre-Liao merger* too, but had systemic issues with misandry and could be very exploitative of non-citizens and occasionally lower class citizens.

edit: *ok, not necessarily a merger of the realms, but House Centrella, the traditional rulers of the Magistracy, are now a cadet branch of House Liao.

I did say complete assholes. RH and GB's civil war was over whether they'd support the complete shitstain of Alaric Ward and is ilClan and "third Star League", for whatever toilet paper that will be worth, rather than some attempt to carve out Lyran or Draconis territory. Most Periphery states were fine prior to any merger nonsense regarding their neighbors even if they might have been a bit internally oppressive. All merged Periphery states are super-iffy.

Their most notable contribution being the Merlin, a very ok medium mech but the first in over a century to be designed during the Succession Wars.

Really? I don't credit Capellans with much, but I was pretty sure the Cataphract and Raven were the first new non-Clan mech designs since the end of the Star League.

Haven't played much in a while*, but I'm glad to see there's still some life in the game!

How are the new DLCs? I'm seeing quite mixed reviews.

I played the first three DLCs but I think I'm done with my main campaign - getting a fully kitted out assault lance is fun, but once you have it the gameplay is a bit of a slog. A solid scripted campaign can overcome that, particularly if it has missions that require tactics besides MOAR TONS, but those still are hard to balance as approachable in the midgame vs a being cakewalk after completing the main campaign.

On the other hand I'm not sure I want to go through the slog of starting a new campaign in MW5, just to level up an appropriately capable lance for DLC. IMO the game is at the best in the middle, where getting a new mech or piece of kit gives you an edge that forces you to try different tactics. But you still have to be careful about over-using that rare shiny lostech because you could still lose it.

Starting from scratch for MW5 Clans is a little more enticing... if it's any good that might be a (rare) day 1 purchase from me!

Is the stick on your HOTAS ambidextrous enough to use with your left hand? My favorite control scheme is left hand stick for the legs, and right hand mouse for torso and weapons. I wanted to like two sticks but aiming with a right-hand stick is far too clunky. Left hand throttle with a rudder/rocker for steering gets you 90% of the fun, but you'll miss out on a bit of maneuverability from your faster light/medium mechs or your melee heavies.

* at least myself - my 4yo daughter has been having fun playing on instant action maps, with difficulty set to minimum and an an overpowered lance of "protectors", which lets her cruise and jump and stomp around to her hearts' content.
