Faster than A class cross country is always messy since like you said it’s really easy to jump too long and miss a checkpoint.

Thankfully The Trial is almost always road or off-road (I.e. dirt tracks but no huge jumps). I play everything else single player and can always resort to rewind if I miss a checkpoint.

Cross country racing seems to be busted in AI's favour in both FH4 and FH5. They seem to recover much faster then me after landing from a big jump.
Yeah, they also drive like they have much better grip but on the other hand you can usually take a better line on enough turns to get through

Yeah it was pretty horrible... I persevered in my no rewind I can beat it but after at least 3 dozen tries for 1st race, activated rewind and then beat the 3 races... But honestly, this event was complete BS.

Sure, with skill you can definitely complete 1 lap without crashing at a decent pace, but getting 3 in a row still has quite low odds, given that even if you set up for a jump almost perfectly, you can still randomly start to get rotation while flying in the air because of road bumps and whatnot, and even the landing has quite a bit of randomness to it. Even regular turns, many are super bumpy, it's always a compromise between either getting good pace or turning safely.

Anyway, the key is safe driving and early braking, but even then, nothing is safe given randomness of bumps, jumps and landing. And the fact that if you not finishing first or that one bad turn/jump = loss, etc. makes this S1 offroad event incredibly difficult...

And the 2nd and 3rd races... They're equally worse, if not worse... You really have to take turns without sliding sideways because otherwise AI cars will pass you without a sweat and you can kiss 1st place goodbye, but again, with bumps, having to maximize speed (at expert diff anyhow), I think it would have easily taken a good 50 runs for each race before I managed to finish first ...

I hate having to use rewind... I also hate having to restart 10 times before getting a good start which will allow you to get 1st, since if you don't jump 10 spots in the 1st few turns, the AI-ghost wizardry makes front peloton take off like they have rockets in their asses. Restarting feels less cheaty than rewind, given the nature of the game. Horrible horrible event...
