What are you replacing vSphere with? Or: Broadcom gets absurd on pricing.

Has anybody use Azure Stack HCI?
It's not free (even with a MSDN sub) so uptake is paywalled off.

I'd be inclined to try it, but I'm not going to pay for it on a monthly per cpu basis when I'm providing the hardware as well. At that point, I might as well just use Azure straight up.

Same thing with the AWS Outpost stuff. It'd be great to have a hybrid environment with the same interface for both. Great idea, but the extra charge just kills uptake for anyone who doesn't have budget to blow.

A lot of people are prepared to pay through the nose for AWS. Witness its huge volumes and margins.

However, Outpost feels much more expensive (and perhaps it's about the same margin).

I suspect the other problem with Outpost is that it has a massive amount of resource overhead, because it's designed with AWS' scale in mind. But if you were able to run a bunch of iron into a mini AWS "cheaply", I think this thread would be over...
