Do you folk like OLED for gaming? Or regular LCD tech?

...people see their desktop?

If my monitor is on it's displaying a web site, a video, or a game. Or sometimes all 3. It's never, ever displaying the desktop.

I passed on the recent sale on the Samsung G9 49" OLED screens, but I'll probably bite on the next one. Maybe 4th of July or Black Friday at the latest.
I am always seeing some desktop. I have 3 columns of icons for quick launches on the far left. I like to see them so this chat is residing in 85% fo the rest of the panel on the left. On the right panel I have a video playing but its only taking about 85% of the panel so I can see the tabs of items under it so I can just click on them. If I am multitasking, I likely am not using the full panel, I am using most of it. Now if I really want to sit and watch say a movie, sure, that is full screen (1 of 2).

I also rarely work full full-screen unless it is something like a game or video. Windows generally take 70-80% of the screens though. I use auto hide for the taskbar because I never really need it. I can just click on the window I want because they are all accessible. I have the NeXus dock at the top with all the shortcuts for various apps and folders I usually want. That auto hides as well. Works very well.

I have only seen burn in once in my life, on a 1990s CRT that was on 24/7 showing the Windows desktop.

The burn it was noticeable but not that noticeable (taskbar, etc.). It did not impact usability, just something you noticed if the machine was rebooted.

My parents have a Plasma from 2008 and it has no burn in despite being used heavily including for watching news.

I love me OLED laptop for casual gaming (b/w games or ones with saturated simple palettes are fun), plus lots of indie/horror movies. I did end up burning-in my Firefox browser bar, so when I have bright content on the full screen I can see (and no more unsee) the bookmarks bar and gradient. Hoping my future OLED screens will no more show this behavior (it's an entry-level laptop, so the screen is, too). Premium OLED should be better by now - in 2024?
