[ARS] The DC-Vault Perpetual Thread (Part 3) - Runaway Target

It's quiet in here so I figure this thread is a good place to ask.

I recently started on Einstein@home after a loooooooong break from DC. After three days I've noticed the stats are weird. My external account reports 76k but logging in shows 167k. It's been stuck at 76k on free-dc for almost two days. Is this normal?

Had to stop the CPU apps for a few days due to heat. Back to running SRBase and adding some DENIS@Home. Left the GPUs running through the hot days (GPUGrid & Amicable Numbers). BTW, Amicable Numbers is undergoing the Vault stress test and looks like it will be added soon. For best credits check only the new application called Amicable Numbers up to 2^64 (double check) and also turn on (check) "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?"

Edit: Tried DENIS@Home. My account was deleted in their crash. I'm out and at least for now it's out of the Vault.

DPC just passed us in the Math category. We're now #2. Still hanging on to #1 overall, but not by much.

I've been toying with BOINC the last couple of days. Mainly just out of curiosity and also partly to test performance on some Windows / Linux variations. I've joined the Ars team at Einstein and Numberfields. I'm not giving a long term commitment here, but I can add some CPU power for a while (no gpu unfortunately).

Welcome to the team! We just moved back into 1st in the Math Category for now. Numberfields is a help in that regard too. Have fun crunching and contributing to science!

Looks like we'll be back in second place overall in a day or so. We're hurting in TN-Grid where we'll be knocked back a couple places. I moved most all my CPUs there but it's nowhere near enough. All my available GPUs are still on Amicable Numbers since TN-Grid is only CPU.

I'll pick some up shortly, making up a gap on VGTU for a couple days.

After sitting in second place for too long we're back in 1st overall (due in large part to gains in SRBase, NumberFields and Amicable Numbers), at least 1st for a while.

DPC is gaining quickly in TN-Grid which will bump us back in 2nd place overall. I'm all in but my CPU power is just not that great.

Not to mention that we've regained the #1 spot in the Math category...

I'll be switching once I hit 25 mil in VGTU. It won't matter much however, my whole arsenal won't match DPC's horsepower.
I don't think that matters. What does matter is that we stay just behind them with no one between. They've been moving resources around but like us, they can't be everywhere. It's a nice strategic battle for first place overall.

New DC-Vault project and as usual it bumped us out of the DC-Vault lead again. It's Yafu: http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/

To join, also use the same URL: http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/

We're currently in 39th place (1,533,365 Yafu credits) for a total of 8,347 out of a possible Vault 10,000 points, so it's by far our worst project at this point.

As usual, don't forget to join the Ars team!

I'm a bit unsure about the removal of LHC at this point in time, it's slowly getting back on track after it's move from CERN in Switzerland to Queen's in London. It's still around, but they feel it's not up to scratch at the moment. The others were dead basically and that means there's no real way of changing the scores for teams trying to climb in the Vault.

Yafu news and suggestions. We're off to a good start as we passed 3 teams today and are now in 36th place. After a little experimenting I have some suggestions. Do NOT limit cores per machine as it seems to cause some cores to be left unused. Allowing all cores works well. For instance: if you have a machine that allows 15 cores it generally will get 8 core WUs and will use the other 7 cores on other projects. BTW Yafu can use up to 32 cores per WU. Also, I have had NO WU failures yet. Note that sometimes WUs can sit at 100% for hours as BOINC can't predict them well. Just leave them run. Credit varies wildly as Yafu runs the latest BOINC server build, you'll get winners and losers but it should all average out.

Edit: This project currently scores a whopping 43.4 Vault points per place.

Any feedback or corrections to this are encouraged.
