Since I greatly prefer discussing shows and movies without having to use spoiler tags, and I'm super excited for the next Star Wars fix, here is the spoiler filled thread for the show.

I will be posting spoilers for all episodes as soon as I see the episode. If you don't want to be spoiled, stay out of this thread until you watch the episodes.

The first two episodes air on June 4th, and new episodes air at 6pm Pacific on Tuesdays

You've been warned. Don't click on this thread on Wednesday unless you have seen the episode.

There appears to be 8 episodes of the show, through July 16th.

Finished the first two episodes. Not bad. Feels very much like a soap opera, and a little trope-y.

Like, literally down to the Evil Twin.

Fights feel very martial-arts-y, which I guess makes sense if the Jedi are trying not to just lop limbs off at the drop of a hat (though the knight, Yord, seems to be inclined to draw his before anyone else).

Well, he's Yord.

Potential spoilers about the plot.

I'm guessing that Carrie-Ann Moss's character dies pretty quickly within the show. I'm guessing the end of the 2nd episode.
Called it, but I didn't think it would happen this quickly.

I like how they had Matrix-esqu wire fu with Trinity's fight scene.

It is awesome that we get a Jedi Wookiee.

Yeah, kind of disappointed in that specific bit.

The fight choreography is great, and part of that is lack of reliance on laser swords. Also Wire-Fu makes perfect sense in a movie about space wizards. Consider the Force to be just like Chi in Hong Kong fantasy films, which is where the Wachowskis took a lot of inspiration from.

On the whole, the acting is fine, I like Dafne Keen and Amandla Stenberg particularly, there are one or two I'm less than impressed with, but that may not be entirely their fault.

I mean, I'm kind of disappointed in the script. The plotting isn't great - there are good ideas, but they aren't doing anything with them, really, and it's jumping around a bit - plus the dialogue and character work are just kind of meh. This should be a lot more interesting than it is, but it's just not working. It feels kind of rushed, like they're trying to get somewhere in a hurry, but they have another 6 episodes so I don't see why they can't slow down a little.

This feels like an instance where a short season makes the show feel rushed. If your goal is to kill 3-4 people, but that's really the lead in to a bigger story, the people have to die fast. But then you get lazy writing, like a Jedi who ignores that knives are getting tossed at her, etc.
Also, they didn't know she had a twin? What kind of record keeping is that?

So, it's a show, but IMO it does feel a bit lazy.

I thought they knew she had a twin but believed the twin died in the fire.
Sol (the Jedi master main character guy) knew but apparently didn't bother telling anyone or writing it down in her file, given how just about everyone reacted when told (I think padawan kid even outright said "wait, that's not in her file" when he first mentions it).

That seems like a pretty major detail to omit-- I'm kind of wondering if there's more backstory there that we haven't seen yet (around him not telling anyone about Mae).

Considering Mae wants to kill the four Jedi that were apparently there when the fire that killed her family happened, I think that's a safe bet.

'What I told you was true, from a certain point of view'. Jedi aren’t very reliable at the 'the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth' thing….
That's the one thing they've nailed for a Star Wars story: The Jedi act in random ways.

I've felt for a long time that the Jedi are not the good guys of this universe. I'm sure George Lucas would disagree, but he also thought The Phantom Menace was a good idea. Actually, that's another thing this show has in its favour, the Trade Federation don't speak with dodgy accents.

Well she does Study in Scarlet the meditating guy, and the you do kill without weapons, I'd wager the fire started from some kind of jedi operation gone wrong and they let everyone think Mae started it.

It frustrates me to see how the existence and use of telekinesis powers are ignored. Kill without a weapon? Disconnect a main artery. Shift the brain stem. Instead of a slow force choke, crush the hyoid. Hell, if you can lift a bunch of pebbles you should be able to induce an embolism.

That said, I enjoyed it. A nice little murder mystery!

I don't think we have any indication (at least in new canon; old EU did all kinds of funky things so I wouldn't rule it out there) that Force users have the kind of fine control over their telekinesis to be able to do things like that. A Force Push is always something like "lift this thing" or "toss this person into a wall" or "stop the knife in midair", probably because that's the extent of what you can do with it.

Or perhaps a well-trained Jedi could, but wouldn't (Force Brain Damage doesn't seem like a very light-side ability to me). A dark-side user powering their abilities with rage seems less likely to be able to do more than wield their abilities like a bludgeon.
