Not quite time travel, but a brief interaction with one person from history.

    This is more a stasis/temporal bubble, vs full-on time travel, just to get ahead of the "I kill Hitler" aspects. Time stops, save for inside the bubble where you are interacting. Basically, you are holograms. Able to communicate (let's assume universal translator is active), but no physical interaction. When the bubble pops, you are back in your own respective timelines. Nothing has changed, but you do both have memories of the event/discussion. (this is mostly to try and minimize the "but, what if..." aspects)

    Anyways, that said, you get 20-30 minutes, via hand-wavey science/magic, to sit with one person from history, and chat with them. They don't have to be famous, though maybe they were/are. Who do you pick? What do you chat about?

    I'm gonna take a little license with the stipulation, and take a virtual walk down the Mall in DC with Abraham Lincoln, from Congress westward to the Washington Monument - explaining what it was and why we built it - and we'd look at the White house, which he'd also know of.

    Then we'd look further westward, at the edifice which anchors the west end of the Mall, and I'd have the privilege of explaining to him who we built that building for.

    I have few heroes. Lincoln is one of them, not because he was a "hero" - he wasn't - but because he was adequate in a time/place when nobody else was adequate. I think he'd appreciate that.

    I think there are a lot of people I would like to talk to just to say I had, but if it were really possible and repeatable, I think I would pick some of the folks who did awful things just because they thought they could get away with it and let them know that no, you don't get away with it. Eventually everyone will know and it really is not that hard to just do a bit better and it would make a huge difference to the world.

    I can think of a few.. I'm gonna try to think outside the box and ignore the "go back and time and tell myself to buy that apartment and invest in Bitcoin" bit.

    First the sappy, I'd like to meet my paternal grandfather. All I hear is I have his mannerisms, I think the same way, etc. I'd just like to meet him for a bit. He died 2 months before I was born and he never got to meet me either. Also I'd like to tell my Mom before they left on their vacation to make sure she walked around on the plane.

    I'd love to have a pipe and a pint with Tolkien. I wouldn't bring up what's going on with his franchise but I'd love to shoot the shit about his work.

    And I would really enjoy having a couple of cigarettes with Kurt Cobain. I wouldn't try and talk him out of anything but I would tell him how much he meant to a lot of people and just let him know that people supported him(and to dump Courtney)

    Now for the wild one....I feel like someone like Hitler or Mussolini would be pretty fascinating. I know you wouldn't be able to change their minds but just showing pictures of what happened to Germany or how Mussolini ended up you never know. Just approach it as a reporter interviewing heads of state..
