8144 days ago, I was someone who was casually reading some Internet forum whose content appealed to who I was and what I was doing at the time. I'd been there a few times by then, and was reading the front page. I saw a thread. It was titled, What do you like?. The purity of the question prompted me to register and offer my first post on the Forum. Ars Technica became my browser Home Page that day, and that hasn't changed since. 22 years later, here we are.

TTPMO is worthy and something we all can identify with, especially talking amongst friends. I think it time for the counterpoint, as well, with respect to FR*'s originating art.

Went to my booster appointment and had less than zero issues. Then since it was a CVS in the early morning was able to grab some stocking stuffers to (hopefully) finish out the Christmas shopping. All before 10:30am.

Oh, and the icing on the cake would be while we got yet another 8 confirmed/90 close contacts notification my daughter was not among them.

Thanks for the thread. I remember a "Life's Little Pleasures" ongoing positive-events thread in the old Sinfest forums, basically the opposite of our TTPMO thread, and was just thinking we could use something like it here.
Today:
I made toast from home-made bread, with butter and copious amounts of fontina cheese melted on top. It was good.
I finished up Campaign 3 Episode 6 of Critical Role and almost finished with episode 1469 of Mormon Stories while walking and cleaning up the lawn.
My walk took me through a route I hadn't really tread since high school. Now that someone has cut the field for the winter, it's a good walking route. Safer than my usual one, since I'm off the shoulder/out of the ditch and away from the road most of the time.

Let’s see… my new Apple MBP finally was allowed to leave China and is headed this way.

Our son’s MBP arrived a day early.

Grandkids came over and thrilled their grandma.

I start my end-of-year vacation. There is a “but….” in there but that cannot be mentioned here.

At my age, if I see the sun in the morning, even if it is behind clouds as it frequently is, it is automatically a day to like. Lot of clouds around to dampen that buzz though.

I merged three ornaments together to make a cool-ish 3d effect, and am now turning it into a fridge/locker magnet. I’m really happy how it turned out, from holding the three items in my hand to formulating the plan to execution.

All three ornaments were etched emblems of the organization I work for. Two acrylic, one wood. The wood one is good, but the acrylic ones are a bit disappointing. But! Acrylic->acrylic->wood looks really good. A bit of super glue, some chip-clips from a recently cleaned out kitchen cabinet, and we’re ready to turn it into a magnet.

It's been a crazy week, but tonight I finally got time to finish off the opening bit of Halo Infinite. The way that the game draws you into the open world is 100% pure fan service in the best way possible, and gave me warm fuzzy feelings like it was 2004 all over again and I was playing the Halo: Combat Evolved demo on the PC (which had "The Silent Cartographer, arguably the best level in the game") for the first time. I am really looking forward to spending some time with this game over the next couple of weeks!

Today has been a great day.

We had our new adjoining wall neighbors over for dinner. Did an Indian food delivery with a truckload of food and a truckload of wine. The best news of the whole evening - they are not interested in getting a dog! Finally, no fucking barking mutts next door, wonderful! Other than a winning lottery ticket, I'd be hard pressed to think of better news - our previous neighbors, simply awful dog owners - we popped champagne when their dog rescue non stop barker finally died. Sorry....not sorry.

Friday (my Saturday) afternoon. No pressing concerns. Coffee. Book. Some tunes. And after the rain this week, the sun felt nice. Rocking camp chair for the win!

In Sept 2001, I bought a house and the real estate agent gave me a candle. It's the only candle I've ever owned.

In June 2021, I burned the last of the candle. I always liked how the lid of the candle jar gave a satisfying pop when it opens, so I decided I'd clean it out and have a jar.

Today, I got around to scrubbing the soot and wax out of the jar.

I like the jar.
