Several other forums have a thread similar to this, and the Lounge Mods have come to believe we need this sort of thing as well. Some things are just ground rules, some are explanations of our thinking towards certain rules, some fall under general guidelines.

Basic Rules

- Don't be an ass.

- Do not Fake Moderation tags. They are for our use only.

- Treat all posters with respect, Racism, Sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. will not be tolerated.

- Do not delete content from an OP, adding, tweaking language is fine, but don't write lots of text, get a 3 page thread going then delete the OP because you don't like the way things have turned out.

- If you've got an issue with any moderation, use our contact form here: http://arstechnica.com/mods/ , don't try to argue it in-thread.

Clarifications/Guidelines

- When you're contacting us about a moderation issue, your attitude in talking with us about moderation goes a long way towards being heard in a reasonable manner.

- General discussions of Moderation are OK, within reason. I don't think anyone wants to see a chili-day of Moderation threads. This covers "how do you think the mods are doing" sorts of discussions, not "I disagree with a specific instance of moderation". The latter should be handled through http://arstechnica.com/mods/.

- No cursing in thread titles: We're pretty mellow about this one. "Fuck", "Shit", etc. are out, but things like "Damn", "God" or "Goddamn" are fine.

- Meet Threads will get stickied a week before the meet. Please send use our form here http://arstechnica.com/mods/ and let us know when this happens so we can do it.

- Lots of things behind the scenes at Ars are not automated at all. If you need any of them done, please be patient as there are only a small number of people who can handle the administrative things, and mods aren't among them.

- Do not post an entire article as an OP. Use a paragraph, or write a summary and link to it.
We all make mistakes, if you feel like you've been treated unfairly, take the time to calm down and explain yourself clearly in submission here http://arstechnica.com/mods/ .

- For any pledge drive threads, please contact us at http://arstechnica.com/mods/ for permission before posting. Charities are a good thing, but we don't want to be swamped by them.

That's it, if you've got any questions, comments, or anything else you'd like to see added to this, send us an email, and we'll add it in.
