Available on various platforms but I preordered on the Mac App Store after seeing it in the WWDC keynote behind Craig Federighi.

Why would you do that, when you can get both Mac and Windows on Steam for the same price or less?

But thanks for the mention, I wishlisted it on Steam for later sales. Considering I just started on the Elden Ring expansion, I need new titles in my collection right now like a fish needs a bicycle.

Because I like to vote with my wallet.

Hmm I guess it depends how you view it. I don't see this new "focus on Mac gaming" as Apple doing me a favour (and I have more Macs than PCs in my household and I'm typing this on a spanking new M3 mbpro) but as Cook finally doing his duty towards his customers. From my point of view, gaming support should already be covered by the price premium we pay for their products.

I was a big fan of Riven back in the day. I found Myst a bit too hard for me, especially the maze thing with audio cues, I never understood. I liked Riven though. I have an "Art of Riven" book hanging around somewhere, and I still listen to the soundtrack occasionally too, it's pretty soothing.

I do remember lending Riven to a friend, who played it all the way to the end, and then asked me for help on the final puzzle. I started saying something about the different colored marbles, and he said "wait, what? these are different colors? I'm color blind." I labelled which locations were which colors for him.

Good memories, but I probably won't replay it.

It’s 10% off on every other store front, no VR capability, no Windows license.

You’re not helping Apple get the message, you’re just paying a premium for less.
I'm a little fascinated by the predominant thinking in this forum (I never post or read about games), but none of these apply to me. I don't care about the Windows license, or VR, I'm not sending a message to Apple itself, but I am indicating that I am an Apple customer by buying from MAS. Buying Apple products I clearly don't care about bargain basement pricing. This will be my only post in this vein.

I put in about 15 minutes in VR. It's gorgeous but the translation motion has, very predictably, given me motion sickness. If there was a teleportation mechanic that would have been helpful but I couldn't find one.

I've also found a puzzle I do not remember, and I'm pretty sure it is new.

Now I need to go lie down and not look at a screen until my stomach stops heaving.

Having made it to Tay and beyond, there are quite a few differences, but not wholly bad. Some parts are a little weirder with more "typical" puzzles, making more like a "normal" game than what Riven was, a unique meditation that required a lot of observation and perceptiveness.

I assume running it on a very powerful machine is a different experience because all the characters talk like they're chewing gum. The initial encounters were a bit disappointing.

I think I'll avoid it. Riven was my least favorite of the 5 (Uru was worse, but that's the Highlander 2 of Myst games). But this reminds me that it has been 7 years since I played Obduction, so I'll give that a replay this summer instead. Anyone here have opinions on Firmament?

Firmament was interesting but ultimately too buggy. I got caught with a bug that blocked progression and gave up rather than trying to load an earlier save.

I'm holding out hope for a PSVR 2 port, the only VR platform I currently own. They haven't even said anything about a PS5 port, but Firmament got one, and the last word is they're still planning on a PSVR 2 port now that Riven's out of the way. I loved Riven back in the day when it came on five or six CDs, and to be able to walk through that world would be a childhood dream come true.

Yeah, if there were a PSVR2 port, I'd probably pick it up just to immerse myself in the environment for a bit.
On the other hand, word is the PCVR version of Firmament could be better, and my experience with the PSVR 1 version of Obduction was shockingly bad. Not broken, but appallingly blurry, nodal teleportation movement only, and it would freeze your head in place for transportation segments like elevators and train rides. So, while I think it's not unlikely that there will be PS5 and PSVR 2 versions of Riven - especially since there's already a Quest version - I won't be shocked if it's a little (or more than a little) rough.

Definitely interested in this. I beat the original Riven back in the day almost solo. The only puzzle I needed help with was the colored marbles in the gold dome at the end of the game, but everything else I did on my own (teenage me was seriously proud of himself for figuring out the base…5, was it? number system puzzle). Since that was pre-internet walkthroughs I had to go to the local Barnes & Noble and find the solution in the strategy guide. Biggest limitation is not having a computer powerful enough to play it. There’s no announcement of a console or iPad version and my only computer is an ancient 2015 iMac. I’m ready to upgrade that, but don’t want to spend $$$ on an M2 desktop when Apple’s already up to the M4. So the waiting game it is, either for a port or Apple to finally announce new desktops, whichever comes first.
