i Can’t imagine that this is actually missing. If you retrieve the vm using the get vm api there is no indication where the godamn vm is.
Has anyone been able to get a virtual machines location information from the rest api?

I won't know the answer, but it will certainly help get an answer if you specify which virtualization software you are using.
pointer to the docs if they are online? I can imagine that it's possible to disable this at the admin level in some way
Get Vm | vSphere Automation API
Returns information about a virtual machine. if you do not have all of the privileges described as follows:
developer.vmware.com
The docs get the information about the VM with the exception of where it found the damn thing.
The equivalent powercli returns the same output and also where the hell the vm is located.
It seems to be such an idiotic oversight.
Worse yet, I can't seem to find a way to correlate the vm to it's location anywhere in their rest apis.
Its just seems like such an obvious oversight.
Sounds like you are not the first to ask and the REST API is lacking (still)

The problem is that the guy who pointed it out is wrong. The host information he found is the hostname for the vm guest.

I am trying to migrate away from powershell to our internal workflow system so rest is the only option.
I even checked out the Java SDK and it turns out that even the SDK has the same limitation, how is it that powercli is the best option.
It makes no sense.
