Selling a broken HomePod

My OG HomePod has died (doesn't;t power up) and I'm looking to sell it for parts (there's still a market for them).

My question is, how do I remove my iCloud credentials from it? I'm worried that if someone restores it, they may have access to my Apple Music account or exfiltrate iCloud credentials. Are my worries unfounded and would just removing the device from the Apple account be enough?

I would hope removing the device from iCloud is the same as doing this:

Home App > press and hold HomePod > Accessory Settings > bottom of list > Reset HomePod > Remove Accessory

AFAIK that step above is the closest HomePods come to a ‘wipe device’ option. After performing that step I wouldn’t worry about a second owner be granted access to your account.

Thanks Bonusround, the problem is that the HomePod doesn't;t power up, so I cannot erase on-device content and settings.

Then I would contact Apple, and ask whether removing the HomePod from iCloud devices accomplishes the same, at least in denying future access to your account. Please post their response here.

Since it’s being sold for parts, I’d say tear it down and remove the logic board. Ifixit has a tear down guide here: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HomePod+Teardown/103133

Step 11, snip snip, trash it.

It might affect the value somewhat, but I’d have to imagine most of the people looking for a parts machine are looking for speaker components (or maybe the power supply, but yours is presumably dead, anyway).

FYI; If you are decent with soldering, the part to fix that issue only $1. To get it fixed by someone who knows what they are doing, it costs around $60. This is a well known problem with the OG Homepods

Destroying the logic board is foolish and wasteful IMO as the device still has good value.
Sorry do you know what needs to be fixed or have a link to a tutorial for it?
