[TLC] SETI interest?

As someone who got into DC (and joined Ars T) as a result of SETI@Home I still run it periodically as a backup GPU project.

However, the GPU WUs are also very CPU intensive and there are other projects which have almost no (GPUGrid, Asteroids) or comparatively little (MilkyWay, Einstein) CPU engagement so I tend to run these in order to allow my CPUs to do other work.

That said, if we want to have some fun and try to ramp up the points again (back to where we were in the early 2000s, I'll provide a bit of processing muscle :)

Awesome!

I do remember those days where Geordie and I were within 1K WU of each other and turning in 30K+ per day. Who managed to have a larger cache was the deciding factor for a while.

Admittedly I may have to drop off production when it starts getting hot, turning 40K+ WUs per day produces a lot of heat.

#5 overall is mine and closing in on #4 (SZ better ramp up), getting to #3 is going to take some time...

Good to see you back! I also run SETI as an NVidia GPU backup project when GPUGrid is low on work. You may want to have a backup project as there are frequent SETI outages. We've even regained and are still just hanging on to the overall #1 DC-Vault position. FWIW there are also a lot of great projects that we're actively competing in. Let us know if you're interested in any of them.

Hey Action,

Good to see you back also, been a while! Just checked the stats for the first time in a while and noticed your return so thought I'd check in here. We had some pretty heavy iron back then when cache was king in terms of the CPU cache as well caching units. Those big old Xeon's bit 1/2Mb cache churned out some decent numbers. Still got an old dual Athlon from back then that I was running for a while not so long back but decided to retire it. Would still run I think.

Not many machines here now but my dual Xeon video render machine is churning away when not doing anything, which is most of the time of late. Graphics cards are disabled though as they were causing erroneous output, although now we are on a newer version I will give them another run to see if the problem still exists. Only two TI 660's in there at the moment but they will be replaced soon if the problem still exists. Eventually by a Quad setup when I get round to doing it.

This may give me the incentive to get that done sooner rather than later. ;)

Then you should get a run for your money again.

ATB,

G

PS Hi Beyond, good to see you still around also.
