I've been on vacation so no one has been around to sprinkle magic packets about and keep the farm awake. OK, the website stats update process should be working again. I had to put in a temporary fix due to some technical issues with transferring dates from my local machine to my data import service, but those are fixed now. At this point, the site is feature complete until I start migrating it to the ASP.NET 2.0. At that point, I'll introduce the milestone tracking and user-gauntlet bits that I started designing eons ago but never finished. That won't likely be for another few months, but it'll get there eventually. I'm also toying with some sort of "project aggregate" stats which track your total contribution to the team, regardless of project. The gauntlet stuff will probably require that interested users sign up with the site to maintain the gauntlet information and track status. Depending on whether or not my provider supports it, I'd also like to get some WCF [.NET 3.0] web services setup that could be queried to download the raw data for users/gauntlets/etc so people could play with the data on their local machines, this would likely tie in with the user login system so I could control who has access to those features if my bandwidth starts to get out of control.

It was a good week to borg...
I had 14 computers and started with 2000 OGR In-blocks. By the middle of the 4th day, I had 1998 Out-blocks and 86,508 stats units, plus a hundred or so RC5 Randoms. (No idea where those 2 missing ones went)
I had lots of big (100+ stats-unit) blocks, and a few single-digit ones. I might try to crunch some numbers on those just for grins.
The tap will stay at 5K for now...
Urugami

Yes, it's been a good weekend. That's good news and good work, we're going to need that horsepower if we're going to pass and stay ahead of Team Warped. We've been on their radar for nearly a year now, I don't think they're going to roll over simply because we closed to within 1.5 Million.

Speaking of teams which roll over, who remembers passing slashdot? That was early September 2006, or a little more than 4 months ago. We've now buried them by over 50,000,000.

From the "Dewey Defeats Truman" department, bayanne looks like he'll be the next person to hit 10,000,000. Team Hidyman has made a tremendous effort, cutting the lead to ~40,000, and winning nearly every day for the past 30 days, but time appears to have run out. Interesting sidenote, these two are next to each other in the overall stats, standing at 199 and 200.
Indeed!! All hail dnetc, the bestest DC client ever! If any other DC project ever comes up with a client as flexible and easy to use as this is, I'd be all over it. No-net, no-problem. WUs by e-mail. Don't want to run a proxy? No problem, fetch from an alternate buffer store. Pause on a flag file or presence of an application. The only way I'm able to sieve is by using cron jobs and shell scripts to emulate what's already built-in to dnetc. There are only two features I'd like to see added:

Built-in clock-based scheduling

Not renaming the process to dnetc regardless of the executable name

I'm less than 120k behind the #99 person and he/she has less than 5k/day production, so I should be safe to stay in the top 100 by the time Coaster passes me.

BTW I have the opportunity to get my hands on a Mac Pro-- the key is, the client installation can only run during certain hours of the day (e.g. midnight to 6am) when the user isn't there. Is there any way to configure the client to startup automatically at hour x and then shut down at hour y every day?

Alternatively a screensaver multiplexor would be fine, but while that's standard in the Windows client, I couldn't figure out how to run it in the OS X client?

Anyone have any tips?

We are steadily gaining, but they have a large lead. And we're not cutting into them like Anandtech. It's certainly not impossible though.

A few items of note. OGR Phase 2 recently crossed the 40% mark. This time last year we were around 15% complete. OGR Phase 2 started in May 2004 (in parallel with OGR 24 Phase 2 which ended Nov 2004). I believe we had recently taken 9th, and were hoping to close the large gap to Slashdo. Also, around this time last year we were joined by Coaster, hitting 10k/day and promising to add a "few more boxes". I think he made good on the promise.

It's been a great year, let's have an even better one.
