I've noticed this strange problem in windows11. Whenever the computer has to reboot for a windows update, the log in screen defaults back to that wavy default blue one. Now iF I go into settings, it shows the correct wallpaper as applied. Next reboot it will be back to normal. No other reboot or on/off cycle causes problems.

It's a really minor problem that fixes itself, but it's just odd.

Can confirm this behavior, had it happen a few times during the last two years running Win 11. It happens sometimes only, and not for each major OS update. PITA to readjust the login screen and get rid off all the crap, like news/weather and whatnot widgets.

What really scared me
a few times was after a reboot and OS update install it did not open back into the login screen but the setup screen for Win11! I just proceeded through it, rejected all the 'offers' - and fingers crossed - was back to my old OS setup/apps. WTF

If It did that I could understand why but like I said it's only for that one boot and then it's back to normal.

Maybe after a update it ignores settings in order to do some updating at first boot? shrug

I think that's just Microsoft's way of trying to push people toward using all those services, skirting the line of legal behavior (and certainly crossing the line of ethical behavior), and it's triggered by updates of a certain type, like feature updates versus security patches. Like "Look we've made your OS even better, almost like it's completely new, so it's okay for us to make you go through this again as if you just installed it".
