Microphone not working on Lenovo laptop

For some reason, the built in microphone has stopped working on my Lenovo Ideapad 330-151KB Touch laptop. I have tried a bunch of troubleshooting items including running the troubleshooter, disabling/ re-enabling device, removing device, updating driver, etc. But nothing worked.

The OS is Windows 11 Home.

I have no issues when I use the microphone from a Bluetooth or USB headset.

Please advise.

If the system functions work fine with an external mic, it could be a hardware failure of the inbuilt component. Does it let you select it as the audio input device and then not capture audio, or do you get some kind of error?
It does let me select the inbuilt audio device, but it does not capture audio or provide any error.

Thanks. I went through the steps listed one by one. But the issue remains even after that. I guess it is up to Lenovo support now. Not sure what they will do as it is out of warranty and it is an integrated microphone.
You can almost certainly just order a replacement online and swap it yourself, though it may take a lot of screw removals. Lenovo is going to make you pay through the nose for a replacement through them. 5C50R34894 is the part. (There is an eBay listing that comes up that is $124 because it's from the UK, but it should only be about $10 in the US.)

There seem to be a lot of other people asking about the mic on this laptop, but that may occur for every laptop.

Thanks. I will look into this.

Some Lenovo laptops have a function key to disable the microphone - is it possible that you accidentally hit that?

All laptops have this (and I hate that they make those features the default functions of those keys; mine has a FnLock button too, which just disables itself). But hitting that button would cause Windows to show the "mute" indicators in the various settings panels, which would be pretty obvious during troubleshooting steps. At least I hope it would be obvious.

Definitely try toggling audio on/off audio levels using the function keys. It will override your Windows settings.
Those buttons aren't hardware functions, they're just soft keys (or at least the OS recognizes them that way). They just toggle it in the OS. You'll never see Windows showing that audio is unmuted but the hardware itself has muted it. Windows will always show the status that you toggled with the button, and volume up/down will always be reflected in Windows. There's almost nothing that has a physical toggle anymore (for integrated stuff, obviously).

Please tell me where the Windows status is for F10 - Turn Keyboard Off.

That's not a standard PC function, or even standard on all laptops, so no, there isn't one. That's irrelevant to my point. We were talking about audio controls. Pretty much every other special function key is also just toggling/adjusting something in a way that the OS will recognize it happened show some sort of indication because the OS is designed to show that status, and because both the OS and the special function key are signaling the hardware to act and both the OS and BIOS/UEFI recognize when such a signal has been sent. (If you could run two OSes at the same time, they'd both see that the volume was changed, for example, or that the Wi-Fi adapter was set to soft-off. So when I say they're not hardware functions, I mean they're just signals for soft changes. Or they're true software keys like one to open your default web browser or video conferencing client, or start/end a call.)

Well, I think we were talking about function keys on Lenovo keyboards, actually. So maybe Windows will not always show the status of these buttons. Your knowledge here is deep but I think we got a little off topic.
