How to download a Kindle title from website?

Hi:

I bought a Kindle book last night, without thinking that I don't have a Kindle device of any sort. I really don't want to read the book on my PC. Is there a tool to allow me to download the book I bought to my PC so I could maybe convert it to PDF or some other local format?

There's 'Kindle for Desktop' and "Kindle for Web". Good luck converting it to something useful like PDF though

Calibre is a pretty full featured and free ebook management tool that allows conversion between multiple formats.

I'm just about to install the official Kindle app for Windows. Do those converter apps mentioned above and others know where to look to find Kindle files, or is this something I need to figure out? Or does Amazon keep these files hidden so you can't find/convert them?

They are encrypted by default. There's a method to get them converted, but it takes a lot of mucking around with older versions and hopefully it actually works. And no, converting to PDF is a terrible idea and you lose all the text flow options an ebook format has

Also again, why do you need to do this? The kindle app is for windows, macs, android, iOS, fire os,, and all kindle readers.

I want to be able to highlight, underline, etc. I assume that can't be done in those apps you mentioned, right?

If it works like a Kindle--I don't know, don't use apps/have a Kindle--then you simply link to your Amazon account, then it syncs with the account and downloads whatever you have in your Content on the Amazon website. Then you read it on your device.

Don't have the kindle app for windows, never used it.

But, five seconds of searching seems to reveal highlighting is a common usage.

You have 4 colors and notes on the kindle app.
