Just a simple switch for @home - POE cameras and AP...

Initially got the 16 port fanless and happened to get the 24 POE....and I can't even hear the fans (with nothing plugged in).

Maybe I need to plug in some AP's to the fan designed switch to hear how loud or not it is.

Anyhow, just short of white paper specs, is one going to be better in overall use life due to one being passively cooled and one having fans

I've seen other fanless designs run for 15 years easily so it should be fine. I would not worry about length of service in a comparison of fan vs. fanless unless you expect to use one in an environment where the air is already hot.

Depends on the environment you're keeping them in and the load you're running them at, as @Paladin says. If you're keeping them in a climate controlled environment and not keeping the POE load at 100% for a long time they'll last about the same time in my experience.

Definitely stay with it if it works under your ambient cooling parameters. I have an Aruba 2930 (steal off of eBay) that's fantastic and solid as a rock powering 3 AP12s and my entire wired network, but it sounds like it's about to go for Low Earth Orbit. Fortunately all the wiring comes to a rack in a closet - if it was exposed to an inhabited space it wouldn't be acceptable.
