Can you still get the Chieftec Dragon cases?

Heh, I used to have one of those. Seemed like a good idea when I was back in college. Finally got rid of it last year with a Fractal Design Computer Case R5. LOVE that, much quieter and better designed and smaller.

If you're just trying to hold a bunch of 3.5" drives, the R5 can still hold 8 drives, plus 2 2.5" on the back of the mobo plate. Except for being able to put 3.5" in 5.25" cages into all of the top 5.25", the R5 actually holds more (8x3.5" + 2x2.5" vs 6x3.5").

If you are planning to use 120mm fans you might have to do some modding.
120mm on the front would be tough, given the drive cages. IIRC it's not easy on the back either. I'd have to dig through old photos, but I don't recall any such mods by my hand... maybe others did? (to be fair, I was more likely to mod a Chenbro back then...)

*Make front mounting plate for 2x 120s

*Offset the HDD cage to clear top 120mm fan

The case for my first DIY build, recommended by Ars, was the Antec Performance II SX835II. I ordered it on October 29, 2003 (thanks NewEgg order history), and in went an Abit NF7-S rev. 2 and a Barton 2500+.

Last year I purchased a good-condition SX835II for about the cost of mid-upper tier case (I'm still looking for a reasonably-priced NF7-S). I bought it on ebay from a general seller that must have stumbled on a load of these beloved, arch-ribbed cases, for they had original SXs, SXIIs, and Chieftecs, with and without front panel doors and in all sizes. I haven't seen any computer cases from them since, let alone Antecs. I'm guessing a local tech enthusiast said, "Hey, you have an ebay business, could you offload these for me?"

The last company I've seen use the design is Ultra, but only for part of the bezel. The interior layout is completely different, and the build quality does not look as good. PPCS (I'm not affiliated with them in any way) has just one more for sale.

My friend and I bought these things from CompGeeks waaaay back in the day for I think $21 a piece. We thought shipping would be a killer, so we mentally prepared ourselves for the shipping charge, and were stunned to find out that they were not as bad as we thought. The more we added to the order, the cheaper they got !! We bought 5 of them and the shipping worked out to be $17/pc. I STILL have this thing set up as a workbench rig with an FX8300/MSI 970 AM3+ rig that gets little to no use anymore.

Hey guys. I am having trouble trying to find an old Chieftec Dragon case or something that is very similar.

Has anyone got one laying around they would like to sell?

Id like the full tower version but i will also settle for the mid tower.

Cheers

Hi, I have one Chieftec Dragon full tower black without window, if somebody wants, unfortunately just with one set of rails for 5,25" cd/dvds and it have a broken upper holder of front door, in closed position it holds well. Im from Prague, Czech Republic
